Google Webmaster Tools Now Reporting Anchor Text Phrases

Yesterday Vanessa Fox of Google announced that Google Webmaster Tools now reporting the anchor phrase used on various site that link to your site and this is really important for seo. Here’s what Danny Sullivan (the GodFather of search engine) said about this :

How They Link, Not How Many Links, Influences Ranking

GoogleAs you can see, the data is great information. The text people use to link to you is one of the most important factors — often the most important factor — for how you will rank in Google.

Let me repeat that. The anchor text used to link to your pages often is the most important reason you’ll rank well for particular words.

Block search results on your site from being Indexed by Google

Wow .. i just read this today regarding the search results getting indexed by search engine (in this case Google), because now Google gives you a warning about making your search results page from getting indexed by Googlebot

Here’s what Vanessa Fox from Google said about this – link :

Typically, web search results don’t add value to users, and since our core goal is to provide the best search results possible, we generally exclude search results from our web search index. (Not all URLs that contains things like “/results” or “/search” are search results, of course.)

Other than that, Matt Cutts also suggest you to use robots.txt to block search engine from indexing your search results, and here’s what he said about this :

Finding External Links using Google Webmaster Tools

Previously i have already talked about creating sitemap for your site, and why a sitemap is good for your site especially if you already created a lot of content in your site and submitting those sitemap file(s) into Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer. And now, Google expand their webmaster tools a little bit more by showing you a detailed link to your domain (main page) or your internal pages

But what is important from that information Google gave you ? because you can simply do the same query in Google by using link command ? .. that’s a simple answer .. because by looking at the external links to your site, you can see how well your site is performing (especially for the SEO stuff). Other than that, using the link command also gave you a different results

Google Pagerank Update Today

It seems Google is updating their pagerank value for various website today (at least at the time i wrote this post). I found it just now when looking at this site pagerank from the Google Toolbar that is installed on my Mozilla Firefox browser .. and this site got a pagerank of 5. While my other site (actually it’s still a placeholder as for now) got a pagerank of 3, and my file storage (temporarily closed for renovation) area got a pagerank of 4, and my blog directory got a pagerank of 4

Although it’s quite normal for other sites to have a pagerank of 3 and above, but if it’s for me .. of course i’m really happy about it because the previous pagerank for this site is as big as zero :-( and of course because some people always look at that site pagerank value first to judge it’s value (it’s a shame though). I hope with the current pagerank there will be more people submitting their blog to my blog directory (as long as it’s a blog, i’ll definitely accept it) :-)

Hopefully this value will stay for some time and wont go down (i’ll strive to keep this value or even better increase it) .. lol .. ah .. well .. i guess that’s all about pagerank and such stuff for today :-)

WordPress, Duplicate Content and Google

Google recently just published an article about duplicate content and how to avoid your site producing duplicate content on their blog

And i think most of you already know that if you’re using WordPress based CMS / blogging platform, you may find your category, and archive pages are duplicating your site content.

For some people they don’t really care about this because they rank well in Google without being penalized because of duplicate content, while some other also say that their site keep losing index from Google

By the way here’s what Google said to avoid having duplicate content on your site:

Images next to Google Adsense Ads

Google adsense team finally write a clear information regarding the use of images next to the adsense ads on their official Google Adsense Blog

Quoted from the Official Google Adsense Blog :

We’ve recently received a number of emails from publishers asking how we feel about the placement of images near Google ad units. There’s been some confusion on this issue, and so we turned to our policy team to set the record straight.

Can I place small images next to my Google ads?

Quoted from Google Press Release :

Starting today, we’re partnering with eNom and GoDaddy.com, two industry leaders in domain registration, to offer users without a domain an easy way to find, register, and buy a domain and start immediately using our services. When you register a new domain as part of the sign-up process for Google Apps for Your Domain, we’ll work with our partners behind the scenes and automatically configure everything so it works with all of the services available through Google Apps for Your Domain right out of the gate. Google Sitemaps Status Showing False Alert

For the past few days, Google Sitemaps showing false alert about your site being removed / not indexed from Google, your verified site become unverified, etc (i don’t think there’s other problem other than that) .. and basically it’s showing something like below :

Google Sitemaps Problem

Yep .. i think the image already explained it ;) … although some people complaining that their site has been dropped from Google index completely (although when i test it, it is showing 2 results from Google index)

But i think there’s no need to worry about that, because i’ve been experiencing this problem too since a few days ago and a while back. Although the sitemap information showing false information i was able to locate my site in google index

Using Google as free proxy

GoogleEver since everyone (maybe not everyone but at least most people) know about Google Translate tool can be used as a proxy to browse various site … i don’t think stats tracking can give you an accurate statistic to determine where your visitors located so you can create targetted content specifically for your site visitor .. and here’s the user agent from the translation tool by google …

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) ,gzip(gfe) (via translate.google.com)
The user agent may vary depend on the visitor browser but they always leave via translate.google.com behind the real user agent

I’m just wondering why does everyone think it’s cool to use Google as a proxy ? why they don’t just browse the internet like normal people do ? Well .. if it’s a protected site .. maybe it can be useful for you, but to browse normal site ? well .. if it’s for me i dont think it’s necessary because there are various reason for it .. except when used on filesharing site :D
