AIO (All in One) PS2 Tools

Just in case someone still looking for Cogswap, or many other PS2 Related Tools such as ExecFTP, PS2 Reality Media Player, etc … i’ve decided to upload my currently used PS2 Tools made by Stinky (it’s called Stinky’s All in One PS2 Tools) because the original page where i found these tools is no longer available

As a note, i’ve uploaded 2 version of this ps 2 tools. The first version is ISO Images that is ready to burn to those who prefer ready to use ISO Images, while the second version is the original Stinky’s AIO PS2 Tools (you’ll need to burn it manually, but you don’t need to worry there’s README file located inside the archive)

And if you’re wondering what tool / PS2 ELF Binary included in this All in One PS 2 Tools, here are the description for each tool copied from the Readme file :

BOOT - This is the first boot that the SYSTEM.CNF points to. It is LAUNCHELF
CDLOADER - This is used to boot copied CD's with a fliptop
COGSWAP - Similar to CDLOADER
FAPLINK_FTP - This is the client that MUST be running on the PS2 when using, FAPLINK on your PC to transfer ISO's to the PS2
GENESIS_EMU - Pretty clear what that is
SEGA MASTER SYSTEM - Play your SMS on your PS2
HDDMANAGER - This is the HDFORMAT utility that came with DMS4 chips. You use the HD partition manager fuinctions to delete game installs that went bad, or add more space to current installs. Its really neat.
STINKYS_HDLOADER - This is a modified version of HDLOADER.(My custom skins)
STINKYS_DVD9_HDLOADER - This is a patched version of HDLOADER that allows you to play DVD9(Dual Layer) games off the hdd (GT4, Xenosaga, God of War) Read the "read me" for this to see how to do it
ID-CHANGER - If you got banned from SONY's servers for online you can use this tool to change the ID of your machine and get back on. DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN BANNED!!!
IPCONFIG - The IP data that FAPLINK uses to connect to your PS2
MCFORMAT - Cleans out MC's that are full of corrupt data. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. It gives no warnings before wiping out your ENTIRE MC.
MCLOADER - I find this to be useless, but you may find a good use for it
MP3_PLAYER - Does just that. Read the "README" for it to see how its used
PS2MEDIA - Use this to play DIVX movies on your PS2
SNES_EMU - Plays Snes roms on your PS2 (MY wife loves this one)
TETRIS BASTIT - You know how when you play tetris you SWEAR it purposly gives You useless pieces? Well this one REALLY DOES ON PURPOSE!!!
USB_ADVANCE_HDLOADER - This is a hacked version of USBEXTREME. It will allow you to put a USB HDD on your PS2 (V12 included) and play games off it just like a regular HDD. Note that loading times are very slow due to the USB 1.1 format the PS2 uses.
USBTEST - Use it to test out your USB key, or other USB devices

Swapmagic for PS2 or Cogswap ?

I don’t know why people are still looking to get a downloadable copy of swapmagic. I guess they just didn’t know, even if you manage to find a copy of swapmagic from torrent or from some forums out there you won’t be able to use it / run it from their ps2 console

The reason why it's not going to work is simply because if you download swap magic iso from somewhere and then burned the iso’s into a blank cd, that means you already created your home made cd

And like most people already know that in order to run home made cd’s from your playstation 2 console, you’ll need to install or use :

a modchip into your ps2 first
use original swap magic cd

Which defeat the purpose of running the burned swapmagic (well if you has modchip installed inside your ps2 console then there’s no need for you to use swapmagic anymore)

So instead of looking for downloadable iso’s of swapmagic, i’d suggest you to start looking for Cogswap instead (i do have a copy of cogswap in my hdd although i never use it because i'm using modchip)

Few days ago i just bought 4 new games since i got bored of doing nothing, and the name of the 4 games i bought were Romance of The Three Kingdom XI, Naruto – Narutimate Accel / Shippuuden, Samurai Warriors 2 Empires and Spiderman 3. While im not really that interested on playing Spiderman 3 since i think there’re no big differences between all the Spiderman series for PS2 and this one

But what about Romance of the Three Kingdom XI ? well i must say that this is a must have game especially to those who likes to play Turn Based Strategy game (dunno if im saying that game genre correctly, though it'll be better if they create the English version for pc too) … unlike it’s previous series (Romance of the Three Kingdom X), you played as a whole army this time (just like the previous series before ROTK 10). Other than that KOEI also made a lot of improvement especially at the graphic parts … although i must admit that this game is much harder than the previous ROTK series i’ve played

As for Naruto Shippuuden / Narutimate Accel … well … since this is one of my favorite game for 2D fighting games, of course this is a must for me (things i like from this game is the Ougi Scene for each characters) … here’s why i loved this game including it is previous series :

What about Samurai Warriors 2 Empires … basically this game is just like the Dynasty Warriors Empires series, and i did not see any differences at all between Dynasty Warriors Empires series and this game (i mean the gameplay not the character of course) :P

Now, back to playing game again :D

Samurai Warriors 2 Review

Samurai Warriors 2 is just another hack n’ slash type game made Koei. And yes it is the same company who created / published the famous Dynasty Warriors Series where you play as the Three Kingdom General, but in Samurai Warriors 2 you play as Japanese General in Tokugawa era (if i'm not wrong since i do not know much about History)

At the beginning of the game you can choose between 7 characters but later when you’ve finished each character quest you’ll open new character. Total 24 playable characters in story mode and 2 additional characters (Okuni, and Ranmaru Mori) that can be played in Freemode only if played by 1 player only

Btw if you ask me why i know the total characters would be 26, unlike the screenshot above. Thats because i took the above screenshot using PCSX2 because my tv tuner used to capture screenshot from PS2 Console is still on my old computer (to be exact motherboard) and i havent moved it yet to my new motherboard

Okay … there’re a lots of characters that can be played but now what ? is that all ? of course not, there’re various aspect why i like this game better than Dynasty Warriors series. And here’s some of it and of course this is based on my experiences after playing this game for the past few days:

Unique skills for each character, by pressing R1 + Triangle (second skill) or R1 + Square button (first skill) for example my favorite unique skill is Nene Copycat skill that can transform herself into nearby character (even enemies)
Each character can has different skill. Unlike the first one, you can choose to buy it from shop or learn it (some of the skill require you to learn it) for example, Musashi has two counter attack skill that can be activated by pressing Triangle when an enemy attack you or by pressing R1 + Square
Other than that, there’s also monopoly like game in this Samurai Warriors 2 game (to be honest im not really interested on playing this monopoly thing so i can not say much about it but your opinion might be different than mine)
Character leveling like on many MMORPG game (yep … you can level your character to the maximum level of 50)
Lots of bodyguard type to choose from, such as Sumo, Ninja / Kunoichi, Fire Ninja, Samurai / Lady Samurai, Monk / Shrine Maid

Want to know more about this game ? well … i’d suggest you to get it and try it by yourself instead ;) .. but one thing i’d like you to know is, i like this game better than Dynasty Warriors Series although the AI Itself is still the same like on all Dynasty Warriors series on PS2 but unlike on Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper (PC)

Connecting PS2 to PC Monitor using TV Tuner

Yay … i'm back again after taking a break for about a week or so if i recall correctly :) .. and this time im going to post about connecting ps2 console to monitor using TV Card / TV Tuner Cards. And if you ask me, why i did not use other method to connect my ps2 console to my monitor using other peripheral such as VGA BOX or something like that ? .. the answer is simple, because the only thing i have is just a low quality tv tuner from PixelView (Prolink) named Prolink PlayTV HD (it is an old tv cards and not many PVR program are support this tv tuner so if you decided to buy it, you might reconsider on choosing other card) but i also use my video card vivo capability

As a side note, i decided to connect my ps2 console into my pc monitor because my pc monitor is larger than my tv size :( .. other than that, my old tv can only support Mono Audio not stereo audio which is a big disadvantage for all music games such as Guitar Hero, Drum Mania, Guitar Freaks, etc. But the downside of this method is, you’ll need to turn on your computer whenever you want to play your ps2 (but it can be easily switched just in case you do not feel like turning on your computer)

Okay .. that’s all for the introduction, and now here’s what you’ll need in order to connect your ps2 output to your monitor :

Hardware :

1. TV Tuner Card (well .. of course this is the most important peripheral before anything else) :P .. and here’s what it looks like if you connect the ps2 video output to your tv tuner input (the yellow cable) :

2. or VGA Card with ViVo (composite video in / video out) capability but in this case the only thing you’re going to use is only the Video In .. here’s what my VGA card vivo input looks like :

3. Soundcard … <= to record audio of course but im 100% sure your computer already has a soundcard even if it’s an onboard soundcard

4. Y-Connector (image below) or similar connector to connect your ps2 audio output to your soundcard (recommended) or tv card

Software :

Im using DScaler 4 and you can get it from here (Open Source / Freeware) .. <= small file size, and recommended
but you can also use other software such as Media Portal (Open Source / Freeware) if your card supported or choose a commercial software
Optional : Divx 6.1 ++ (i'm using Divx 6.4 Codec) that has High Speed Recording mode so you can record your ps2 into a video file

And here’s the step :

Connect your ps2 video output cable (in this example it is using the composite output) or you can also say the Yellow Cable to the Video input of your tv card or your VGA Card
Connect your ps2 audio output cable to Y-Connector and connect the Y-Connector into the Line-in of your soundcard
Run DScaler and configured it to use your capture card and set the video source to composite
And to make thing even easier, configure DScaler to automatically detect your PS2 Video Output (NTSC M/NTSC M JP/PAL BGHI) by checking the Automatic Format Detect on the Deinterlace menu .. in my case because i'm using modchip in my ps2, so the DScaler will automatically adjust between each Region Video Format Type everytime i insert different games (my ps2 console is PAL type)
Configure the rest of DScaler to your liking (to get the best thing possible from your card)
and the results :

That’s it .. now you can freely record your ps2 games easily =) or make a screen capture from your PS2 games ..

Choosing the correct PS2 Cheat Devices

Actually i decided to write this because one of the commenter here asked me why he can't use codes on his Xploder cheat devices. Well .. although i haven't tried xploder yet, i think that Xploder has a built in code format detection like ARMax, so you can't just enter any random codes. So by creating this post i just want to give some more information to those who’s interested on buying a new cheat devices for their ps2 console

As a note, if you’re using a modchipped ps2 .. and you’re sure that you’re using a good modchip .. then you don't have to worry about this stuff. Simply because you can use them all on your console ;) and that’s including playing imported game

Important : I never tried using Swap Magic / Swap Disc method, because .. well .. erm .. i'm using a modchip :P .. lol .. other than that i’ve never tried using Xploder and PAR (although i have them both) and GS2V5 (broadband enabled)

First of all, there are various cheat devices on the market, from Gameshark, Action Replay Max, Codebreaker, XPloder and Pro Action Replay (PAR) .. and the most popular here (in my country) .. is Action Replay Max. And if you asked me why armax is popular here ? the answer to that question is because most ps2 here in Indonesia are PAL version .. but you can also get a NTSC/US or NTSC/J (it's rare to find this type here) console if you really want it. But

Okay now what you should check first before buying a cheat device for your ps2 console ? The answer to that question is first check your PS2 Type in the back of your console, and you’ll see SCPH-XXXXX and your ps2 type so you’ll not end up buying uncompatible cheat devices for your ps2

And now some features offered by those cheat devices (so you can judge which cheat devices are better than others) :

1. ARMax (Action Replay Max) – Official Site

Advantage

Built in media player, and you can use it to play various media type such as playing mp3 files or watching video files
Built in chat client, well .. you can use it to chat with other people (i haven't tried this one yet although my ps2 is connected to the net) .. but i think most people don't really need this feature
Built in memory manager, which is one of the most useful features because you can use it to transfer your savegame files to your computer (and that means saving your memory card space), and can also compress your savegame so it takes less space (but you’ll need to decompress it first in order to use those compressed savegame)
Online codes update, although i'm not using the built in update features (because the update files are saved on your memory card, and it takes quite large space) .. i think it's quite useful for those who doesnt want to customize their armax because they’re not using modchip on their ps2 console
Has separate version for those who’s not interested on using Modchip .. and that means there are NTSC/US and PAL version

Disadvantage

Dunno if this should be called disadvantage, but if you are not using the automatic update feature, you’ll have to type each code using your ps2 joystick .. and every armax code always have an addition to each code .. here’s an example so you’ll get better idea of what im talking about :

Special Note : You can also upload your savegame directly from your ps2 using ARMax, other than that there are two armax type (Armax EVO and Armax only), with the only differences the EVO version already include usb flash disk

Advantage

Has memory manager, but i haven't tried it yet until now .. so i think it's almost useless for me :)
Less typing (new code) :P
Fast loading time
Accept RAW codes .. so you can easily use various codes available from 3rd party site (not official site) .. or in the other words .. codes created by some person out there

Disadvantage

No update features, you’ll have to enter each codes individually :(
Can only be used on NTSC/US console (if you’re not using modchip)

Special Note : If you’re using Gameshark 2 v5 (Broadband Enabled), you can update your codelist easily … and it has media player too (i don't know if this is true or not because i havent tried GS2V5)

3. Codebreaker – Official Site

Advantage

Updating codes online via your PS2 console directly just like Armax
Built in memory manager, and has ability to compress your savegame too. And i always use this save compressing feature to save space, for example use your second memory card to put only compressed savegame instead of storing your savegame to your computer or your flash disk, because you can access it much faster this time ;) .. (basically i'm to lazy to connect my flashdisk) :P
Support RAW codes

Disadvantage

Some people reporting that they can't use the savegame transfer function on the new slim ps2 (i'm using the old slim ps2, 70002 PAL and it works fine)
Only works on NTSC/US console. And as a note, if you’re using modchip there’s still a high chance codebreaker will not run (codebreaker 7.1+) on your console (unless you’re using a good modchip) .. basically if you bought it and when you use it, you only get a blank screen that means your ps2 console (if you’re using modchip) is not supported

Well that’s all about their features comparison. But there’s another thing you should keep in mind, and that is how long before they released new codes for new games .. and of course this is the most important thing to consider before buying a new cheat device .. so here’s the order :

Codebreaker : this is why they’re the best, because they’re the faster when creating new codes. And most of the time they’re releasing high quality codes (since gameshark time) … and the guy behind this is no other than CMX :)
ARMax : Basically they’re fast too just like CB, unfortunately sometime they’re not creating a useful codes (for example in some games, instead of creating infinite health they’re creating max credits code)
Gameshark : Well .. maybe you should try visiting their site and see it for your self :)

I think that’s already covered some of the most important thing to look when buying cheat devices for ps2. I hope this information can be useful :)

And some last note : Because i havent tried Gameshark 2V5 (Gameshark Broadband Enabled), PAR and Xploder i don't know what should i write about these 3 cheat devices (the only thing i know about them is Xploder is for PAL only, while Gameshark for NTSC/US only, and PAR .. hm .. i dont know about it .. although it works fine for a modchipped ps2, because my friend has it). So if you know more about those 3, and you’d like to share it here .. feel free to submit those information to me (credit will be given of course)

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 PAL Codes

Just in case you need some codes to use because you are having some difficulties with Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 2 .. here’s the codes (ARMax and Codebreaker) … although i only tested it on Codebreaker :-)

Having Problem with Final Fantasy XII Codes ?

Well .. if you’re one of the cheater out there that is having problem with codes on Final Fantasy XII on PS2 (i mean if you got problem with Mist Gauge or can not summon Espers because your main character mist gauge is always one, or you can't use quickening on all of your character) and you’re using certain codes (in this case it was codebreaker codes) or other codes …

Then here’s some tips on how to solve this problem ( actually i don't really want to start the whole game again and that’s because i already played for about 36 Hours, already got several espers / summon, etc !!! ) so instead of restarting the game again i decided to play around with the default code from Codebreaker to reset all of my character license status

And to fix that problem all you have to do is just inserting below codes (for Codebreaker 7.1+ ) with the above master code (if you’re using default codebreaker codes then it should work for you)

And don't forget to save your game after that and restart your ps2 console without using any codes .. and then choose to activate each license for all character one by one :-P .. (you can play around with the above codes if you don't want to activate each license one by one .. but it's up to you) … fortunately my License point for all character is already at 99999, so i can use it freely. But i think it’d be different in your case so it’d be best for you to use below Code to make thing easier :

Okay that’s all about it .. but wait .. there’s one more problem. The Infinite MP codes don't work as it should and without Infinite MP codes you can't use your summon / quickening freely .. so here’s the new MP Codes, also at some point you’ll experience some problem if you are using infinite health codes so i also give you a new code to recover hp instantly (i prefer jokered command instead of permanent value) lol :

Taking a Break

For the past few days i’ve been playing 3 new ps2 games i got several days ago (Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, The Fast and The Furious) and also one pc game (Need For Speed Carbon Collector Edition) because i'm still having problem with my internet connection, and i don't know when it’ll be fixed. But thanks to these games, i don't feel bored even if i can't access the internet .. :-P

Unfortunately i have a problem with the Need For Speed Carbon for PC and that is a Crash To Desktop (CTD) issue without leaving a single error message. And unlike the previous NFS Series, this is my first time experiencing such problem even with the latest driver installed on my system including latest DirectX update (although it only happen in some case, for example if i move my mouse a lot, i got crash to desktop immediately)

But forget about that because right now im having fun by playing Final Fantasy XII, because this new Final Fantasy series is offering new battle system (which i really liked it a lot) … although the story itself is .. well .. not that good compared to FF7 or FF8 :-(

And the conclusion is .. because i’ve been busy playing my new games, i forgot to update my site .. lol .. and of course i’ll be back after i have finished those games :-P .. (well it's been a while since i played games on my ps2 or my pc) .. beside i'm pretty sure when i finished all of these games, my current internet connection problem has already been fixed :-)

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2

I just bought a new Dragon Ball Z games and that is a Budokai Tenkaichi 2. I must say that the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi series are the best dragon ball games ever i’ve played and this time i'm really amazed with this game because this game offer almost realistic gameplay (well you can also say it almost looks like you’re playing the anime itself) :

The top reason why i like this game are :

Since the first Dragon Ball Games i always want to use the normal (not powered up / super saiyan) Songoku character, and i want it to be able to transform into super saiyan while in battle against computer or friend .. and in this game you can do it (even you can do fusion too)
I always want to shoot at the opponent using ki (i mean Kamehameha or Super Kamehameha) without any delay .. and in this game, you can do it too
For example if you’re using Super Saiyan Gogeta and shoot your opponent using 100x Big Bang Kamehameha you’ll see some special effect (i don't want to say it here because it's going to ruin your gameplay experience especially for those who still don't play this game yet)
There are many characters to choose from, and that’s including Pan, Yi Xing Long, all Great Ape from Dragon Ball Series and many other characters (this is the only dragon ball game that i’ve played so far that gives you lots of characters from dragon ball anime series)
And many other factors .. but i think you’ll get the basic idea of this game ;-)

So if you’re a Dragon Ball Fans, and you have Playstation 2 .. you should get this game right away .. trust me, you’re not going to regret buying this game .. (well i'm off right now to play this game again) :-P

PCSX2 0.9.2 Available

Hey .. i didn't know PCSX2 0.9.2 has been released, well because i just know about this today (actually when i posted about this) .. i think i'm going to download it and play around with the new version :D as a side note, they also said that there’s available another new release of pcsx2 0.9.2 R2 and for those who’s already using the first release of pcsx 0.9.2 series should update into the R2 version. And here’s some more information about the new R2 version from their page :

Compatibility regression with Vampire Night resolved.
Final Fantasy X now works for most regions.
Fixes Crash when using config>patches
Frame Limiting is now more accurate.
Improved zeroGS, Disgaea 2 menus are now solid.
P.E.Op.S SPU2 updated to include threaded mode (usefull for video recording).
Screen Saver / Power Saving now disabled when running PCSX2.

CB2 Crypt the Codebreaker Converter Updated

Correction about ARMax

Some visitors of my website just talked to me today and he was asking why he couldn’t use the savegame he downloaded from the internet although he already follow the step given in my previous guide by using his ARMax (Action Replay Max) CD … after doing some several testing, actually i found out that i forgot to tell him, that he should Uncrush it first instead of just copying it directly into his ps2 memory card. Since the downloadable ARmax format savegame (.max) from the internet or your backup savegame from your ps2 or flash disk are already compressed like Zip, Rar, Ace format and many other. So by copying the savegame directly from your Flash Disk / USB Pen Disk its not going to work, because its not in the standard ps2 memory card format. And that’s all about it … and sorry because i forgot to tell this in my previous post ;)

How to use PCSX2 the Playstation 2 Emulator

Now im going to put some guide on how to configure PCSX2 to try out the PS2 Emulator. And since few people are asking is their system can play ps2, then the answer is no. You can’t actually play ps2 games on your pc right now (dunno for a real high end system which is using Dual Core Processor, SLI Graphics Card, etc, but to most users just wait for it), but if you want to help the PCSX2 team, you can do it by testing out PCSX2 and reporting any bugs you found to them.

First you must have PS2 Bios in order to try out the PCSX2 (you can find it easily on the internet) ;) and dont forget to put it into Bios Directory in your PCSX2 Directory

and the next step would be running the PCSX2 Executable and configure it like this (maybe different depending on your computer configuration, especially to those who are using SSE2 Enabled Processor, such as Pentium 4, Athlon64, etc)

1. Configuration Screen of PCSX2

3. Controller Configuration (since i dont own a joystick, im using Keyboard)

4. CDVD Plugin Configuration

Note: if you don’t have ASPI installed on your system use Win2k/XP IOCTL SCSI Command and set it into your DVD Rom Drive (if you’re not using ISO Image)

5. The next step would be putting your PS2 Games on your DVD ROM and choose to Run CD from File Menu … and pray hope it’ll work :P and in my case i was running Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi PAL Version

And that’s it … you’re finished ;)

Note: If you got an error message saying error opening gs plugin or something like that, most likely you’re trying to use ZeroGS Plugin and your vga card is not a Pixel Shader 2.0 Capable Card (ZeroGS require Pixel Shader 2.0 ++ Capable Card) .. and the only solution is using GSDX Plugin as the graphic plugin or get a new graphic card
