The Sims 2 Bon Voyage - Another new expansion pack for the Sims 2

Yesterday i just received this new expansion pack for the Sims 2 series game, since i haven’t actually tested this game (because it just arrived yesterday, and i choose to install, test to see if the game is working as it should with numerous mods i’ve installed, and exit) so i can’t really talk to much about the new features inside this sixth expansion pack for the sims 2 other than you can get your sims to go on vacation to the new 3 vacation islands premade by the sims 2 developers itself

Although i find some of the new features included in this new sims expansion pack a little bit interesting (taken from Wikipedia) :

Ability to create custom destinations.
Ability to buy vacation homes.
New NPCs including ninjas, pirates, fire dancers, local chefs, various hotel staff, etc.
New creature, the Bigfoot.
Sims can learn skills such as local dances and local gestures from the locals at vacation destinations.
Sims may wear accessories such as rings, earrings, and necklaces.
Ability to walk to community lots instead of requiring a vehicle.
Secret lots in vacation destinations that can be reached by finding a map to them.
Ability to create beach lots.
Sims can now "Dig For Treasure" on Community, Vacation, or Home lots and discover random objects.

As a side note, based from what i’ve read about this game on Gamespot Website, this game is a little bit buggy (or perhaps more) according to a player review posted on gamespot :

This expansion, for those of us who could happily spend our lives traveling, is more fun than most of the others. But it is more than a bit buggy, and until you've checked out some of the online forums and chats you will have trouble creating your own getaway paradise. Which you will want to do.

And fortunately EA has released a patch for it (though i haven’t installed the patch yet, but i think it’s better to keep your sims 2 updated because that patch fix some serious bugs in Sims 2 Bon Voyage EP)

Here are the changelogs of the new patch for the sims 2 bon voyage :

Note: Not all fixes will take effect on existing The Sims 2 Bon Voyage saved games. If you have an existing lot, Sim, object or neighborhood that does not seem to be improved by this patch, we recommend that you replace the affected object, or create either a new family, lot or neighborhood, depending on what is affected by the bug.

Sims will no longer have the option to call vacation service NPCs after acquiring the business perk "Head for Numbers" which was causing a crash.
Sims will no longer have the option to "Call Taxi" using their cell phones if they have driven to the community lot with an own-able vehicle which was causing a crash.
If the Sim misses the shuttle, it will no longer return to a vacation lot without the Sim at the end of the vacation. Sometimes, this caused the vacation lot to become unusable.
Game will no longer create new vacation NPCs each time a lot is visited which was causing many issues due to character file overload. Any existing extra NPCs will be unlinked and their character files greatly reduced in size.
Periodic Events Controller will no longer loop twice per hour through each neighbor which was causing extreme lag on certain machines.
Autonomous water-balloon and snowball fights have been tuned so the interaction will occur less frequently.

As a last note, this game use Securom ;)

Need for Speed Pro Street … Looks Great !!!

Okay … i’ve to admit the previous Need for Speed Carbon doesn’t really impress me at all, especially with it’s crash to desktop issue. But dang … the upcoming NFS Pro Street screenshot looks great especially the AE86 and the muscle cars (i don’t know what machine these screenshot were taken from, but i’m guessing it’s taken from PS3, though i may be wrong)

Though this one also looks great too :P

One thing for sure is, if EA released the Need for Speed Pro Street Demo, i’ll be sure to download right away

Football Manager 2008 is coming

Sports Interactive recently announced that Football Manager 2008 will be available in stores before Christmas 2007 (for PC and Mac). And like it’s previous series, in FM 2008 you’ll get a bunch of new and improved gameplay / features :

Trickster Online, another Free to play MMORPG

Looking for another free MMORPG that has good community (this is the most important thing for me, and i usually quit playing MMO because of this reason especially if the community isn’t friendly), not to expensive ingame prices (although this has changed now), easy to level, easy to make money, etc and it’s in Official Server not Private Server ? Then you should try playing Trickster Online because so far this is my favorite MMORPG …

But what about it’s features ? here’s some of the trickster features taken from the Official Trickster Website :

Although to be honest, i didn’t really like the Drilling part … (at first i love drilling but later when you need to get specific items that is only available to get via drilling, you’ll know why). And as for My Camp, and Card Battle … i can’t say anything about it since i haven’t tried using that features yet until now

But my favorite part in Trickster Game is it’s party function, because you can get x2.5 Experience if you managed to get or create Special / Royal party (shared with your party members or individual)

Other than that, i also like on how you can use all weapons / armor for all characters (unless it’s specific for each character)

And now here’s the list of the characters that is available for you to choose in Trickster :

Buffalo & Bunny = Power type
Sheep & Dragon = Magic type
Fox & Lion = Sense type
Cat & Raccoon = Charm Type

And that’s all about it … btw My IGN is RedHat (99% of the time play on Ruby) and just in case you already played this game and want to clean your inventory from useless items, you can always send it to me :P

Creating Public Server for LAN Party - Setting up Private WoW Server

This is the third part of the Creating your own World of Warcraft Server using Mangos

The First part is all about Installing and Configuring MySQL on your Windows Machine
The Second part is about Configuring the WoW Mangos itself
The Third part is all about Setting up Private WOW Server for Lan Party
The Fourth part is all about Installing and Setting up Apache Webserver with PHP

Okay … after taking a break for few days now i’m going to continue with the complete mangos configuration guide. And in this topic i’m going to tell you how to create public server … erm … i mean private server for lan party purpose (if you intend to create public server using mangos, that means you’re violating the mangos license agreement)

and to make thing shorter … let’s start the guide ;)

Requirements :

Working Mangos installation (really important)
Knowledge on how to set up port forwarding from your router and your firewall software if installed, because each router have different configuration page (required if you’re going to host WoW Server behind router)

Note :

In this example the wow server process is located at virtual machine using 192.168.3.3 as the LAN IP Address
Im connecting from another virtual machine to that ip address
Mangos and realmd process must not be started first
This process can be used for both WoW Mangos TBC Server or Classic Server

Here’s the summary of the process on how you’re going to do it :

Change the realmd.realmlist (realmlist table in realmd database) into your lan ip address or public ip address
Set the realmlist.wtf to use that lan ip address
Optional : If you’re going to host your wow server behind the router then you’ll need to set up port forwarding for port 8085 (World Server) and 3724 (Realmd). But if you have firewall software installed on your computer then you’d need to configure your firewall to allow connection to that port

Setting up WoW Server for LAN / Local Area Network :

First of all you need to know what is your lan ip address, especially if you’re using DHCP to automatically assign your ip address, and to do this first you need to open the command prompt window

Start Menu => Run => Type CMD

then type ipconfig like example below :

From the above image you can see that the ip address used was 192.168.3.3 so you’ll need to set up your realmlist to use that ip address so here’s how to use it :

Open command prompt window or you can also use the same command prompt window from before
type below command (image) :

Note : Don’t forget to adjust the 192.168.3.3 to use your lan ip address because i'm sure your lan ip address is different

And now we need to make sure that it is get properly written into the database so here's how to check it

After done with the above process, now you just need to set your realmlist.wtf file in your WoW Game Directory (for example, C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\realmlist.wtf) to use that ip address … and you’re done then the next step would be starting the mangos process and realmd process, and try connecting to your wow server from other computer in your network

Setting up for Internet / Accessible from anywhere :

Basically there are no actual differences between configuring wow to be accessible from LAN except :

You need to use your public ip address instead of your lan ip address (you can see your public ip by visiting whatismyip.com)
You need to configure your router to forward port 3724 and 8085 (and no don’t forward the port used by MySQL, because previously someone port forward the mysql port too)
If you use firewall, allow connection to your computer on port 3724 and 8085 too

Note : If you’re having problem on port forwarding / do not understand how port forwarding works, then i suggest you to visit this page

But what if you ran the realmd and mangos server on the same computer and you’re trying to connect to it (connect to the same computer where mangos and realmd process started) ? and yes i'm sure you want to play using this method if you only have 1 computer in your home like me

Then you need to follow this step :

Look at your public ip from whatismyip.com and make a note of your public ip address

Sign up with Dynamic DNS service such as No-Ip.com , Dyndns.com or sitelutions.com and set up your desired dns name to your public ip address
Use the newly created DNS name as the address for realmd.realmlist instead of your public ip address (using the same sql command on example above)
Look at your lan ip address using the above example
Open C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad or your favorite text editor
add new lines using below format at the bottom of the hosts file

your-lan-ip-address your-newly-created-dns-name

save it
adjust the realmlist.wtf to use your newly created dns name
set up port forwarding
and you’re done :)

Please note, only invite trusted people to your wow server (for example your friends only) and do not attempt to create real public server unless you really know what you’re doing ;)

Well … that’s all about it … and at this time you should be able to get your friends to play on your server … unfortunately you still need to add your friends account manually which is not good for LAN Party Server

So for the next part i’m going to tell you how to set up webserver with php on your computer so your friends can register account easily ;)

Bored ? then try playing Pirates King Online or Tales of Pirates MMORPG

My friend introduces me to this free MMORPG games a week ago if i remembered it correctly, after not playing MMORPG (online not offline) :P for more than 4 years (the last time i played MMORPG is Ragnarok Online 3 years ago, and quitted before the sakray or turtle dungeon was released) … but let’s keep that aside shall we ?

First of all here’s some description about this game taken from the Tales of Pirates Website :

Tales of Pirates is a fully 3D designed multiplayer online game based on 5000 years of background history with Piracy as its central theme. It is comical in nature and has humorous looking characters and creatures. The game is painted in bright and beautiful colors. The exaggerated movements and actions of characters as well as objects, topped with an atmosphere that is overall relaxed, the game makes it always interesting and fresh for new and old players alike. There are also different styles, themes and architecture for the different towns, islands and dungeons. The multitude of elements designed captivates players and keeps them immersed while they explore all different possibilities available in game.

But i do not think anyone are going to read that, right ? i’m sure most MMORPG Players just want to download the game client after heard it from their friends, then continue to register step and play without reading the game intro any further :P

Pirates King Online (PKO) or Tales of Pirates (TOP) basically is just the same like any other MMORPG which means :

You choose your character class / job
Click on monster and wait until the monster die
Collecting some rare equipments or cute equipment to show off
Leveling your character to reach the max level

But if all MMORPG offers the same features, i’m sure no one are going to play it no matter what … and that means in this game there’re some new features i havent seen before like :

Building your own ship and use it to go to someplace (i do not know much about this for now, because my ship still at level 1) :P
Getting life skills like woodcutting, salvage, repair, etc which is different from the skill point (btw i think World of Warcraft also have this features)
World Chat which means you can chat to anyone on the server you choose at the beginning of the game

I know post about MMORPG can be considered incomplete without a screenshot, so here goes the screenshot ;)

This one taken at Argent City (the largest city) when i play in Pirates King Online Server

People trying to get good items from fortune tree (i never tried this one since i havent learned the woodcutting skill yet)

While this one is my ship (rarely use it and just recently bought it)

And if you ask me what are the differences between TOP and PKO … the answer is nothing with the exception Tales of Pirates server is located in United States while Pirates King Online server is located in Singapore (which is the closest to my country)

At first i played this game on US Server on Pinguin isle (until level 30), unfortunately because of the lag problem (can’t even move my char) i decided to download the PKO client and choose to play on Singapore server (Engine server, until now)

So If you’re bored and looking for something to do, then i’d suggest you to try this game too. Also you don’t need to worry because this game is a forever free MMORPG. Although if you want to looks really cool in game you’ll need to buy something from their item mall … and in the end … i just want to invite you to play this game too :P

Few days ago i just bought 4 new games since i got bored of doing nothing, and the name of the 4 games i bought were Romance of The Three Kingdom XI, Naruto – Narutimate Accel / Shippuuden, Samurai Warriors 2 Empires and Spiderman 3. While im not really that interested on playing Spiderman 3 since i think there’re no big differences between all the Spiderman series for PS2 and this one

But what about Romance of the Three Kingdom XI ? well i must say that this is a must have game especially to those who likes to play Turn Based Strategy game (dunno if im saying that game genre correctly, though it'll be better if they create the English version for pc too) … unlike it’s previous series (Romance of the Three Kingdom X), you played as a whole army this time (just like the previous series before ROTK 10). Other than that KOEI also made a lot of improvement especially at the graphic parts … although i must admit that this game is much harder than the previous ROTK series i’ve played

As for Naruto Shippuuden / Narutimate Accel … well … since this is one of my favorite game for 2D fighting games, of course this is a must for me (things i like from this game is the Ougi Scene for each characters) … here’s why i loved this game including it is previous series :

What about Samurai Warriors 2 Empires … basically this game is just like the Dynasty Warriors Empires series, and i did not see any differences at all between Dynasty Warriors Empires series and this game (i mean the gameplay not the character of course) :P

Now, back to playing game again :D

Samurai Warriors 2 Review

Samurai Warriors 2 is just another hack n’ slash type game made Koei. And yes it is the same company who created / published the famous Dynasty Warriors Series where you play as the Three Kingdom General, but in Samurai Warriors 2 you play as Japanese General in Tokugawa era (if i'm not wrong since i do not know much about History)

At the beginning of the game you can choose between 7 characters but later when you’ve finished each character quest you’ll open new character. Total 24 playable characters in story mode and 2 additional characters (Okuni, and Ranmaru Mori) that can be played in Freemode only if played by 1 player only

Btw if you ask me why i know the total characters would be 26, unlike the screenshot above. Thats because i took the above screenshot using PCSX2 because my tv tuner used to capture screenshot from PS2 Console is still on my old computer (to be exact motherboard) and i havent moved it yet to my new motherboard

Okay … there’re a lots of characters that can be played but now what ? is that all ? of course not, there’re various aspect why i like this game better than Dynasty Warriors series. And here’s some of it and of course this is based on my experiences after playing this game for the past few days:

Unique skills for each character, by pressing R1 + Triangle (second skill) or R1 + Square button (first skill) for example my favorite unique skill is Nene Copycat skill that can transform herself into nearby character (even enemies)
Each character can has different skill. Unlike the first one, you can choose to buy it from shop or learn it (some of the skill require you to learn it) for example, Musashi has two counter attack skill that can be activated by pressing Triangle when an enemy attack you or by pressing R1 + Square
Other than that, there’s also monopoly like game in this Samurai Warriors 2 game (to be honest im not really interested on playing this monopoly thing so i can not say much about it but your opinion might be different than mine)
Character leveling like on many MMORPG game (yep … you can level your character to the maximum level of 50)
Lots of bodyguard type to choose from, such as Sumo, Ninja / Kunoichi, Fire Ninja, Samurai / Lady Samurai, Monk / Shrine Maid

Want to know more about this game ? well … i’d suggest you to get it and try it by yourself instead ;) .. but one thing i’d like you to know is, i like this game better than Dynasty Warriors Series although the AI Itself is still the same like on all Dynasty Warriors series on PS2 but unlike on Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper (PC)

Football Manager 2007 … It’s been over a year since the last time i played this series

Recently i just bought a new soccer management game called Football Manager 2007 after previously i did not bought the FM 2006 this time i'm back at playing this game series again (yep … i'm a fans of Championship Manager / Football Manager series) … guess what the first time i played this game, i got surprised because there’re so many changes since the FM 2005 (and i have to familiarized myself with this game again)

Some changes i notice in FM 2007 are :

You can ask your senior player to coach younger player
You can talk to your player before match or half time or after match (although in the end i just leave this team talk stuff to Assistant Manager)
Better exposure of the manager (you or other club manager)
You can set your own contract value and it’s additional clause (hey i like this)
New training screen (i dont know if the new training screen / method already available at FM 2006 but if it’s for me, i’m sure im seeing something different than before) …

and more …

As for tactics, buying players, etc. I did not notice any changes at all with the exception my previous FM tactics is not working anymore on this game :( (i mean not loading the tactics directly but by using the same instruction for all player and using the same formation)

Btw if you have this game installed on looking for additional software that might enhance your FM experience, i’d recommend these tools :

FM Genie Scout : To help you searching good players and regen players (this is the most important tools for me) :P
Football Manager Modifier 2.1.2 : This tool mostly useful for cheaters only !! or at least to those who doesnt want to lose their important players during special match … btw this tool is a memory modifier that can heal your entire team with just one button click (morale become Superb and condition set to 100%)

And if you currently looking for Graphics addon such as Skin, Super Pack or Face Pack for a complete league, or just a club. I’d recommend you to check this link :

Simplementefutbol Superpack 924 MB : Although i can not speak / understand that language but the instruction itself is really simple so you can get it without problem. Btw this superpack contain lots of face pack although there’s duplicate for some of the players but i think its still better rather than seeing the player without a picture

To those who’s still using unpatched version of FM2007 … then you should check the official FM website for the latest patch

As for the last, if you’re interested on applying to be a beta tester for Football Manager Live (you can see the description there), just go to this page … (i also try applying to be a beta tester too, although i do not know if they’re going to accept me or not)

And if you ask me, why i wrote this post eventhough FM 2007 already available since last year. The answer is because i prefer to wait before buying this game until Sports Interactive has released at least 2 patch (and yes … i’m using the 7.0.2 version directly although it says that Patch are compatible with saved game but i prefer to play this game after the patches has been installed)

As an addition, i write this after finished Season 1 :)

Creating WoW Private Server the easier way (perhaps)

Update : You can browse this site software category if you’re looking for my mangos release or my custom mangos release … btw i’d suggest you to get my mangos release first because it has been tested with WoW 2.2.3 and will be updated frequently (even easier than anything written on this old post because i already include everything you need to run your own wow private server except for mysql program of course)

Maybe my previous post about creating WoW private server is a little bit confusing for some people and that’s why i create another post on how to set up world of warcraft private server once again but this time … i promise it is not going to be confusing like before :D … and actually i should be thanking everyone who put comments on my previous post, because of their comments i was able to get new topics for my blog … hahaha

Okay and that’s all on the introduction part … now let’s start the guide, but before that please keep this in mind, this guide tested with 1.12.1 World of Warcraft Client (known as WoW Classic) non modified in any part and tested to work with Mangos Revision 3462, but this guide can also be used if you’re going to create The Burning Crusade server although you’ll need to get different database dump from someone else, and of course getting the newer mangos release :

Required Software

1. ~~Mangos Revision 3462~~ : The mangos release is compiled by Maxi and this release also include the following patches :

ScriptDev2 R34
Honor 0.71
MCH 1.5c

And just like i said to make thing easier, i upload this mangos release (just in case Maxi reading this, and he does not want me to upload his file here … let me know immediately so i can remove it … because i already forgot where i get his release) .. i think it is from his userbeam / beam something folder

2. ~~Complete SDB with Changesets 156~~ : Because there’re problem for some people when importing each changeset, i decided to release the SDB used by me … and this SDB updated till changesets 156

But i also include, the create database, and realmd database to make thing even easier

3. MySQL : Essential program, the above 2 files can not be used if you dont have this installed :)

4. ~~Map & DBC Extractor~~ : This is tested to work with World of Warcraft Client version 1.12.1 and Mangos Revision 3459 and Revision 3462 only

But just as i said before, to make thing simpler. I’ve uploaded the DBC Files (maps not included because the file size is bigger than i thought, and my connection speed is nothing compared to all of you) .. and that means all you have to do is just using the ad.exe / map extractor to extract the WoW Maps

Let’s Start

I assume you’ve already downloaded the required software and already installed it (for more in-depth WoW Mangos installation please refer to my previous post)

1. Install the MySQL Software and configure it accordingly, in this example MySQL installed in C:\MySQL and using the default root password which is blank

2. Extract the Complete Database file somewhere in your harddisk, and you’ll see there’re 3 files :

create-database.sql
realm-database-full.sql
mangos-full-for-rev3462.sql

Run it by using this command (this time i make sure to use the default path instead of using command which is already set in environment variable path) from Start Menu => Run => cmd (this cmd can only be used in Windows XP) or command (Win9x) => and change to the extracted directory :)

C:\MySQL\bin\mysql.exe -u root < create-database.sql
C:\MySQL\bin\mysql.exe -u root -D realmd < realm-database-full.sql
C:\MySQL\bin\mysql.exe -u root -D mangos < mangos-full-for-rev3462.sql

Note : The create database will also drop your realmd and mangos database if it is found .. i do this in order to make thing easier (how many times did i say this words in this post) lol

Yet another Note : Extract the database into the same path where your MySQL bin located, or if you already extracted it somewhere adjust the path like below for example :

C:\MySQL\bin\mysql.exe -u root < X:\where_SDB_extracted\create-database.sql

3. Put the downloaded DBC Directory somewhere, in this example C:\WoW\Data\DBC

4. Copy the ad.exe into your WoW installation directory also create directory called maps and run it .. and wait till finished and move the maps directory into C:\WoW\Data\maps

5. Extract the Mangos file somewhere, for example C:\WoW\Mangos. And open the mangosd.conf and edit the DataDir into something like below

DataDir = "C:/WoW/Data"

If you’re using the example path given in this guide, you can use the above datadir configuration

6. Run the mangosd.exe and realmd.exe …. and you’re finished :D configuring the server

7.I’m sorry i forgot to write the last step in this post (thanks to GreekSoul). Now since you’ve finished configuring the server all you have to do now is configuring the client (WoW game) to connect to your server instead of using the default / official server. And it can be done by open the realmlist.wtf in your WoW Game directory and change the realmlist into 127.0.0.1 … and you’re all set

I create this part thanks to all the commenters before … especially to metaltildea, PepsiG, Xtonic, luke, Venomz, etc

Q : hay me again it works but the CMD thing it says that the thing u wrote up dosnt exist on the second time
so it wont make the directory :(

A : If you tried to run the mysql command directly without setting it to use the env. variable path, you’ll get that error message … also CMD only work in Windows 2K (correct me if i'm wrong because i already forget about it) and Windows XP (guaranteed to work)

Q : I forget about the signs that dont let me post it.. ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user `username @ localhost` (using password: NO)

A : That error message means, you’re trying to use wrong password for a username, username does not exist, etc .. but in this case, you’re trying to use non existent username (because it was an example)

Q : ERROR 2017 (HY000): Can’t open named pipe to host: . pipe: mysql (2)

A : If you’re trying to use named pipe (this mysql feature only can only be used on NT series such as Windows XP) and you havent configured mysql to do so .. you’ll get that message … to fix it you just have to put below line into you my.ini file (do not forget to restart the mysql service after you done)

enable-named-pipe

Q : Can i import the official data from Blizzard server into my mangos server ?

A : The answer is no, because … blizzard is using different server software which is not available to public .. and no one have access to their server :P ..

Q : my add.exe wont run in my wow map

A : Did you create the maps folder first ? if you did not create it you’ll get an error message. Also you’ll need to run it in your root directory of your WoW installation directory

Q : I can’t run ad.exe or MPQE

A : Im sure there’re missing runtime in your windows system, try downloading and installing below 2 files first and see if it’s fixes the problem or not

- Microsoft .NET 2 Runtime
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package

Q : ERROR 1264 at line 294: Out of range value adjusted for column ‘waittime’ at row 1

A : You’re trying to insert value higher than the allowed value specified in your mysql table … but in this case, this error message seems strange, because i have no problem importing the SDB files including it’s changesets … and that’s why i create this post and upload my database dump :)

Q : I want to be a GM in my mangos server

A : Look at the step #10 in my in-depth explanation on setting up mangos server (do not copy paste the text directly because it’ll give you error message) … and if you get other error message just leave comment here :)

Q : What are the GM Commands ?

A : After making your account to be a GM account, type this ingame .commands and you’ll see available commands to use

Q : My friends can't connect to my server ?

A : Try checking your configuration especially at port configuration, and make sure there's no conflict

How to Configure MaNGOS the World of Warcraft Emulator

It’s been a while since the last time i post something to my blog and that’s because i’ve been playing World of Warcraft in various private / public server, from WowScape, WowFusion, b3ckswow, etc (i'm switching various server because some of them always disconnect me a lot) …

But let’s keep that aside shall we ? because this time i’ll post a guide on how to setup your own world of warcraft private server using MaNGOS (i'm sure there are many other WoW Emulator out there, but i choose this one instead)

And as a note, currently i'm using the World of Warcraft classic version (1.12.1) and this guide might or might not be useful for you if you’re trying to setup TBC (The Burning Crusade) server

So here’s the step …

If you find this guide a little bit confusing, maybe you should try reading my new guide on how to create wow private server the easier way .. also to those who’s keep getting SQL error or want the easiest way of importing the sql, i already uploaded my mangos sdb (updated till changeset 156) and already tested to work with Mangos Rev3462

You can find all of the files required (including mangos itself) in my new post .. so be sure to check it out too ;)

Required Software :

MySQL : This is important because MaNGOS use MySQL as it’s database and currently i'm running the 5.0.xx version
MaNGOS : Without this you can not run a private server of course but do not forget to get the binary files instead of the source files unless you have Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 ++ installed and want to compile it by yourself (currently i only have MSVC 6 so there’s no way i can compile it, and the Visual Studio 2005 Express version is to large for me to download it)
Map Extractor (both of them included) :

Ad.exe : This is used to extract maps files from your World of Warcraft files
MPQE : This is used to create DBC files which is extracted from WoW games data too

SDB : This is the database used by MaNGOS and to make your private server playable of course this is a must. And the one you must download first is SDB FULL 0.6.2 including it’s hotfix and it’s update (you must register first)

Note : You can get binary release of Mangos from Mangos-Files.de

New Update :

Im sorry previously i did not upload the changeset 141 till 156 files because i thought everyone can find the changesets files easily (also i do not know if the SDB team allowed me to put that thing here) … but to make thing easier (and that’s the purpose) .. i decided to upload the changesets file here (if it’s not allowed i’ll removed it immediately) :

SDB Changeset 1.4.1 – 1.5.6 Files for Mangos Revision below or equal to 3462

You must run the sql files in order (eg 141, 142, 143, and so on) and the step to execute this sql script is described in step 5

Optional Software :

MySQL Client such as Phpmyadmin, etc (although in this example i did not tell you how to use those mysql client) so feel free to use mysql client or not

Special Note :

If you get an error message saying the maps files is outdated or anything similar to that message from the Mangos Log, that means the Ad.exe you’re using is incompatible (i have experienced this) and i'm pretty sure the Ad.exe you’re using is for the Burning Crusade client so try getting the old version a little bit
Im currently using Mangos Revision 3459, because the later revision from 3463 and above did not work for me (i have tested it) and i'm sure it was caused because i do not have TBC installed
Im currently using SDB 0.6.2 and updated till changeset 1.5.6
And as a reminder, i'm using World of Warcraft Client version 1.12.1

Let’s begin …

I assume you’ve downloaded all the required software and now as for the next step :

Note : If you did not set up password for the root account of your mysql database the default password is blank .. but in this example i’ll write username as username and password as password :P

1. Install MySQL and do not forget to enable InnoDB when prompted also check to make sure MySQL is in the Environment Variable Path … and activate the mysql service if you havent do so or if it is not started yet and you’re done installing MySQL

Note : Setting up environment variable for mysql is necessary to make thing easier, because you can execute it from any location

2. Extract the mangos program you’ve downloaded into your desired location for example, C:\WoW\Mangos

3. Open the Run command (Start -> Run) and type cmd and press enter and you’ll see command prompt window

4. Now type this in the command prompt :

cd /d C:\WoW\Mangos\sql
mysql -u username -p -v < create_mysql.sql
mysql -u username -p -v -D realmd < realmd.sql

Note : Feel free to adjust database name to your liking but in this example i only show you the easiest way of doing it

5. Extract the SDB Full 0.6.2 file, SDB 0.6.2 Hotfix, and SDB Update into desired location, for example C:\WoW\SDB and type this in the command prompt :

cd /d C:\WoW\SDB
mysql -u username -p -v -D mangos < SDB_0.6.2_FULL_DB.sql
mysql -u username -p -v -D mangos < SDB_0.6.2_FULL_DB_HotFix.sql
and continue with the update by typing the same command with the exception you must change the filename after “<” character

Note : You must update the database according to it’s version number (0.6.2 Full database equal to changelog / revision 1.4.0) so the update you must get is 1.4.1 and above .. as an addition, it might take a while before the full database imported so you can take a break while doing so

And now you’re done setting up database for MaNGOS … and feel free to delete the extracted sdb file

6. Copy the ad.exe into your WoW game directory, for example C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft. And create maps directory in there and run the ad.exe .. and yet another break time :) .. and when this process finished move the maps directory into your desired location, for example C:\WoW\data\maps

7. Now you’ll need to copy MPQE you’ve downloaded earlier into WoW games data directory, for example C:\Program files\World of Warcraft\Data. And now open command prompt again and type this :

cd /d C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data
MPQE /p dbc.MPQ DBFilesClient\*.dbc

You’ll see another directory created called MPQOUT inside the data directory. Now go open that directory and rename the DBFilesClient directory to DBC, and move it into C:\WoW\Data\DBC for example

Congratulation, now you’ve finished setting up the data required for mangos

8. Now for the last step you’ll need to open the mangosd.conf inside the mangos directory and edit below lines :

Change the DataDir = “@MANGOSD_DATA@” into your data location inside the quotes, in this example it would be like this “C:\WoW\data”

Now you’ve finished configuring Mangos and it’s database completely, as for the next step .. try running the mangosd.exe and realmd.exe and see if you can run it without problem or not .. if there’s no problem you can go to the next step (you do not need to close the realmd process and mangosd process)

9. Go to your World of Warcraft game directory and open the realmlist.wtf file using notepad or other text editor program .. and edit it like below :

set realmlist 127.0.0.1

Now you’ve finished configuring WoW to used your mangos server

10. Now you can connect to your own server, if you want to create new user account you can do so by typing create username password from the mangosd window (it’ll create normal user account). But if you want to create GM account you can do so by typing this from normal command line (type cmd in the run command) and type below lines :

mysql -u username -p
USE `realmd`;
INSERT INTO `account` VALUES (NULL, 'username', 'password', '3', NULL, NULL, NULL, '', CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, '0', '127.0.0.1', '0', '0', '0000-00-00 00:00:00', '0');
quit

To get commands for your GM account, you can type : .commands at the chat window inside the game

That’s it you’re finished configuring Mangos and WoW to be played locally :) and here’s some screenshot (please don’t laugh on my equipment because i dont know anything about good items or equipment in WoW and that’s why i choose to play it locally first to learn about WoW) :)

Compiling eAthena with GCC in Cygwin

Since i got interested on playing Ragnarok online once again, so i decided to create this guide .. and this guide is useful to those who’s interested on running their private ragnarok online server from home .. but if it’s for me i use this to test build, finding rare items, etc without doing real work (read: if you play on private server you’ll need to get the items manually) because i can type any items i want as a GM (Game master). But instead of telling you on how to setup server (i’ll write more about this at later time). This post will tell you on how to build / compile eathena in Windows with GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) in Cygwin

And to those who didn’t know or never heard about eathena. eAthena is an open-source project, emulating a Ragnarok Online Server

Getting SVN Client

First of all, in order to fetch the latest eathena files from it’s Subversion repository you’ll need a SVN client program. And in Windows there are 2 ways of doing this (both of them are free) :

TortoiseSVN : A free Windows SVN client which is implemented as a windows shell extension (in the other words, you can fetch svn files by right clicking)
SVN client under Cygwin : You can also get SVN under Cygwin by choosing to download it from the development tools section when you’re installing Cygwin (detail below)

And it’s up to you to choose which one you think is best for you (but in this post im going to tell you on how to use the svn under cygwin). And if you decided to use Tortoise i assume you’ve already installed it, but to those who’s decided to use SVN from cygwin i'm sure you havent installed it yet

Installing Cygwin

Now as for the next step, grab Cygwin from here and download the setup.exe and save it somewhere on your harddrive (i suggest you to create new directory). And do the same steps like installing any other program until you reached this screen

Expand the development (devel) branch and see if GCC and Make already checked. If it is not checked by default then check it by yourself because it is needed, also if you decided to use the svn client from cygwin do not forget to checked it too

As for the other files, well .. you can decided whether you want to download the package or not (it’ll tell you if the package need dependancies from other package) … either way .. it’ll take a while before you finished downloading this into your computer so feel free to do anything you want while downloading the cygwin files

As an addition, you might try looking at the nearest mirror while downloading the cygwin package (if it’s for me although the nearest mirror located at kambing.vlsm.org, because it always give me problem like connection loss, etc .. i decided to use the cygwin.osuosl.org mirror)

When you’ve finished downloading run the cygwin shell from your desktop or start menu to create your user account directory, and then press CTRL+D (logout from cygwin shell)

Grab the MySQL Source

Yet another big download (at least for me), this time you must download MySQL Source to compile the library needed for eathena (sql version) and you can grab it from this page (choose the compressed gnu tar archive, and at the time i wrote this post the latest mysql version available is 5.0.37)

And when you’ve finished downloading the mysql source. Move or copy the tar archive into your cygwin home directory (for example if you installed cygwin in C:\Cygwin . Your user directory would be C:\Cygwin\home\Your_Windows_Username) which is created during the previous process which is involving the CTRL+D key

Grab the latest eathena SVN

1. If you’re using SVN under Cygwin :

Type this at the cygwin command prompt (shell) :

mkdir eathenasvn
cd eathenasvn
svn co http://svn.eathena.ws/svn/ea/trunk . (can also be viewed using your browser. Oh .. and don’t forget the last dot) .. and the next time when you want to update it, you can just simply type :
svn update

And the end results would be like this for an example :

C:\Cygwin\home\Your_Windows_Username\eathenasvn (where the versioned eathena files located)

2. If you’re using TortoiseSVN :

create new directory (for example eathenasvn)
go inside that directory
right click and choose checkout
insert this url or the above svn url at this screen (like below image) :

Compiling MySQL Client Library

From the cygwin command prompt type this :

tar zxf mysql-5.0.37.tar.gz
cd mysql-5.0.37
./configure —without-server
make && make install

Now you have to wait until the compile process finished (it’ll take a while so feel free to browse around the net if you got bored)

As a side note, there are other configure flags you can set (try playing around the configure options) .. but the above configure flags already sufficient for most users

Exporting unversioned eathena files and compile it

1. If you’re using SVN under cygwin type this at the shell (note: the directory where versioned eathena located is in the previous step) :

cd $home
svn export eathenasvn eathenasvnbuild
cd eathenasvnbuild
make sql (if you want to use mysql) / make txt (if you want to use the flatfile database / txt version)

2. If you’re using TortoiseSVN, choose export by right clicking on the eathenasvn directory and choose the export path .. as for the rest it’s the same like above. With the exception you must go to where unversioned eathena located and type make sql / make txt

As an addition, if you want to use other C Flags you can edit the eathena makefile

That’s it you’ve finished compiling eathena by yourself .. as for the next / future post (that’s because i want to play World of Warcraft in Private server for the first time .. :P ), i would create a guide on how to setup your own ragnarok private server using eathena

Busy .. playing Ragnarok Online

It’s been a while since the last time i wrote into my blog, and that’ss because i’ve been busy playing Ragnarok Online once more just as i said before. At first i thought im going to play in low rate server (private server of course) .. but after re-thinking about it, i think i’ve had enough of hard leveling my own character before in the official server so i decided to play in High Rate server

After searching for a good high rate ragnarok private server for a while, i found Q-RO (Quality Ragnarok Online) and began playing there. Surprisingly its really easy to level up my character there (the max level is 255) ! .. my first character was an Assassin Cross Critical Type and i reached level 255 in just one day without botting :D (here’s the screenshot) because of fast leveling (i do not pick up items dropped by mobs except for important items, no break after die, etc)

And now because i already finished playing as SinX, i created another character which is a High Wizard and Lord Knight. My second character is Lord Knight and the Third Character is High Wizard (both of them already reached 220++ level and using the same Ryu as their nickname which is taken from Wikipedia – MugaiRyu, JigenRyu, and SekiguchiRyu)

The online population in QRO server reached 1000+ population and that’s including bots for sure (or at least that’s what i thought). And QRO also offers low rate server too just in case you want to play at more harder level .. lol

So .. by creating this post i just want to tell you that i'm still alive and kicking :P … and btw if you’re also interested on playing ragnarok online private server might i suggest you to try QRO too (or even better meet me in QRO because i do not have friends there .. lol)

Back to playing Ragnarok Online once again

I never thought that i'm going to play this game once again, previously i have already quit playing this game since December 2003 (official server), and back playing Ragnarok in 2005 (private server) for about a month or so .. and now .. because i got bored, i decided to play this game once again (on private server of course and the only server i have found so far is AnimaRO because the old RO Private server i used to play – Aero2 – already down) but this time instead of playing ragnarok immediately, i have to download tons of updates / patches from the official korean ragnarok ftp server because my ragnarok installation is already out dated (i'm using the old Sakray before September 27 2005)

Yesterday i have finished downloading all sakray update files since 09–27–2005 and at the moment, and i thought by simply downloading the sakray update i can play instanly on various RO private server .. but .. it seems i havent had much luck because by updating the sakray data only, i can not even access the main interface of ro client (it says that shadow.act and shadow.spr is missing) and by doing simple trick to fool this game by creating dummy file named shadow.act and shadow.spr i was finally be able to get pass that message. But ..

There’s another error message saying that cursors.act and cursors.spr can’t be found .. and i tried doing the same trick again. And i can get pass that message .. unfortunately this time i get another error message that looks like a korean language in ascii mode because my system lack the language file for korean language :P .. and i'm sure that even if i can get pass this error message, there will be another cryptic error message appear on my desktop .. :(

I guess .. the only way for me to do it is just by updating each file manually .. and i hope i can play it without problem if i have updated my kRO installation but if it’s not working, then i guess i have to give up playing this game because there’s no way i can download the full installation of kRO

as a side note, just in case you’re looking for the kRO FTP server. It can be found at ftp://ragnarok.nefficient.co.kr/pub/ragnarok/ (random ftp server)

but if it’s for me i choose to download from this IP address of the kro ftp server : 221.139.3.74 because it is the fastest for me

Devil May Cry 4 goes to PC and XBOX360

Yay .. finally DMC 4 are going to be available for PC users :D .. here’s the news from Gamespot :

Devil May Cry 4 is no longer a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The latest installment in Dante's adventures has joined the list of titles that will no longer be limited to Sony's new console, which launches in the UK on Friday. Like Devil May Cry 3, the Capcom game will be released on the PC as well. It will also ship for the Xbox 360 at the same time as the PS3 version, marking the first time a DMC game has been released on a Microsoft console

Capcom said in a statement that Devil May Cry 4 "will take advantage of each platform's hardware strengths." The company added that the move was made to "to help enhance profits". No specific release date was given for any version of the game, which is still unrated – Full Story

Although it’s great to know that DMC are going to be available for pc, but what are the minimum requirements for the pc version ?
