I guess my pc isn’t fast enough to run GTA IV (PC Version)

So yesterday i just installed GTA4 (after the long installation process and that’s include updating the Gamesforwindows Runtime that is required in order for you to be able to play the game unless you decided to block gta 4 with your firewall). At first i thought that my pc would be able to run this game without any problem because so far i can play various game such as assassin creed, devil may cry 4, crysis warhead, fallout 3, and many others modern games perfectly fine on my pc (even if i couldn’t use AA / Antialiasing) on 1280×720 resolution (i’m playing on HDTV), but i guess i was wrong.

When i started GTA4 without using any additional command line, i couldn’t change any graphic settings and this game only allows me to play on 800×600 or 1024×768 resolution with low texture quality, and with 1 view distance (which is the lowest settings) because this game thinks my computer isn’t fast enough to handle higher configuration.

And so i decided to search around the net for possible options to tweak GTA4 graphic settings manually without being restricted and found one. And then i try to implement the tweak by simply doing:

1. Create a new text file called commandline.txt in your GTA 4 installation directory (where GTA4.exe can be found)
2. and put these into the commandline.txt file:

-norestrictions -nomemrestrict

3. Then launched GTA4 again, and finally i can change anything i want from the graphic settings

As i’ve stated before, i always run my games on 1280×720 resolution, so i just simply change the resolution to 1280×720, texture quality to Medium and render quality to Medium, and all others settings at half from the maximum allowed value and restarted the game again … and voila …

Note: I don’t know why the screenshot is just too dark because i can see it perfectly fine in-game

As you can see in that screenshot, all vehicle seems to be flying and not all textures has been loaded … and so i change the resolution to 1024×768 and …

Everything seems to be okay and textures can be loaded much faster (even faster on 800×600 resolution) except it looks better on higher resolution (obviously)

Btw i’ve also tried changing the texture to High … and guess what … i can’t see anything other than cars and people, everything looks blue without any textures

And the conclusion … i think i’m going to put GTA IV on hold because i’ve played it before on xbox 360 without problem and reached the last stage before my 360 broke and needs to get repaired (i haven’t repaired it till now because it’s too expensive) and beside i’m currently addicted to Football Manager 2009 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 :P

p.s if you’re currently thinking on buying GTA IV, i’d suggest you to double check your pc specs first and check on how well it’ll perform on GTA IV (well if you don’t mind playing on low resolution then there should be no problem for you) or buy the console version

p.p.s i’ve also tried installing the latest beta driver from Nvidia (because they recommended it) 180.84 … but instead of making GTA IV runs faster, it’ll keep crashing my pc. And that’s only when i tried to go to the NVidia Control Panel

Update: So i just upgraded my pc (actually i wasn’t planning on upgrading my pc but since my Abit AN9–32X dead, i feel the need to upgrade my comp)

Btw with my new spec: (i don’t think i need to list the mobo and ram because the most important thing to consider is your processor and VGA Card with at least 512 of VRAM) AMD Phenom X4 9950BE, and HIS 4830 VGA Card with 512VRAM (budget series card) i was able to run this game at the highest renderer setting with medium settings texture at 1280×720 resolution. Without the need to use any additional tweak other than fullspecaudio

No Warranty for your PS3, if there’s no Official Support in your Country

So … yesterday i just received a response from Sony regarding my enquiry about PS3 Warranty and such in Indonesia (because i have a plan on buying a brand new PS3). And as a matter of fact, this is the first time ever i asked such question before buying a game console, because i know that there’ll be no official supports for game console here because of … well you know … piracy issue here

I decided to ask this question directly because i have a XBOX 360 console that i bought April 2008 (which is still under warranty if it’s not flashed), and i have sent it for repair once because it won’t read any disc and i keep getting open tray message although there’s a disc inside, a month ago (not to Microsoft because i have a flashed 360, although i’m not the one who flashed it because it came pre-flashed from the store and beside it’s hard to get a non pre-flashed 360 console here) and the cost to repair it … is around 36.4 USD (if converted to USD) … and right now (one month after i’ve sent my 360 for repair) … my 360 console won’t read any disc again, and i’m guessing this time i need to replace the lens … which is going to cost me around 78 USD … and of course i consider that as expensive

In short, i decided to ask this question to Sony so just in case in the future i’m experiencing problem and it is still under the warranty, i can still send it to them directly to get repaired for free (in my case i always have problem with optic ever since the PSX era)

At first (before i sent them an email message) i thought that even if there is no official supports here for the Playstation products, i can still at least get a replacement / repair service for free as stated at the above paragraph but here is their response:

Dear Aditya,

Thank you for your e-mail and interest in PS products.

Regarding to your enquiry, please be advised that there is no official PS3 products and support in Indonesia. Therefore, there will be no warranty, no repair service, no online service (Playstation Network), and no after-sales support.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Based from their response, if i decided to buy PS3 … and i get problem in the future (just like Colt), i’ll need to cover / repair it myself … and as a side note, replacing a PS3 lens cost for about 104 USD (the xbox 360 is still cheaper compared to PS3). So i think i’ll just stick with my 360 for now … and going to send it for repair once again (and i just hope there’ll be no third time for me lol)

Adsense support 4 new language

Tales of Vesperia, a J-RPG for XBOX 360

Well it has been several days since i played Tales of Vesperia, and OMG … i just love this game! Because it’s been a while since the last time i played an RPG game that really makes me want to play it until the end of the game or probably play it again for the second time unlike the other RPG games on 360 (so far i’ve only played Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon)

Currently i’m on my first playthrough with around 90+ hours in game (and that’s why i’ve been offline) and at the last part of the game (i can choose to fight with the last bost but prefer not doing so) because i like doing sidequest, collecting items, etc right before fighting the last boss and actually that’s what i like on RPG. Collecting items, fight against special boss (if there’s any like Omega Weapon) and get to the max level (currently all chararacters at level 84 – 85 which is still a looong way to go before i can reach the max level of 200) :P

Generally i love most parts of this game except collecting rare items from specific monster that only appear during specific situation (for example during day or night) and the DLC that allows all characters to level up without grinding

Anyway since many sites have reviewed ToV, i’m not going into the detail about this game called Tales of Vesperia. But if you are currently searching for a good RPG games on 360 (which is rare to find) then you should get Tales of Vesperia to your collection

If only i could get myself a HD Capture card (because it’s hard to get such capture card here), of course i’d be glad to take a screenshot from the game itself directly but in the meantime feel free to check IGN Vesperia blog (although i’m not playing the Japanese version simply because i can’t read Japanese)

Oatmans’ Wrath of the Lich King Release! Revision:1

Well its finally here! Sorry that it took me about two months to finally get around to making it but our first Wrath of the Lich King Server is now here and supports Revision: 8788 of the WotLK Beta Client! This release operates on top of the MaNGOS Kernel using the UDB Database. With about 3,585 lines of code added into the MaNGOS Core Wrath of the Lich King is now officially supported into the Reaper-X Family and Discussion Board!

Installation Instruction:

1. Run Oatmans’ WotLK Installer.bat from Oatman’s WotLK Database directory and continue with the installation until finished
2. Edit Mangosd.conf and Realmd.conf especially at below parts to point to the correct database name using your mysql password and username:

Note:

– Replace wotlk_usr to your mysql username
– Replace mangos to your mysql password
– Replace wotlk_realmd, wotlk_world, wotlk_characters to point to the correct database name that is used on the installation process
– Replace Datadir to the full path of your extracted DBC files and maps files from WOTLK (if you put the dbc directory and maps in the same directory of mangos, then there’s no need for you to change it)

Other Notes (thanks to LoLz Guy):

#1 To run mangos.exe you have to edit mangos.conf and delete some spaces (if there are too many) or other things that dont fit there…

#2 To make your databases work you have to use a mysql gui program (like navicat or sqlyog) and execute batch files to characters and realmd tabs.

#3 To make a Death Knight you have to manually edit the database (using navicat sqlyog or sometjing like that) and in the realmd in account table change your accounts “tbc” thingie from 0 to 2 or from 1 to 2 (I couldn’t do it in mangos.exe commands, as it was blocked or something).

BTW the Death Knight class starts at the race start place, has no abilities, and there is NO WOTLK CONTENT AT ALL…

Important Note from Oatman:

Currently this repack doesn’t have any NPC’s on Northrend although he (Oatman) said that he’ll add NPC’s later on the next revision (Revision 2) and probably some other things as well :) … and as he said before on the comment area, he is currently busy with various things as well and so he sent me the download link yesterday via email

PS3 2.40 System Update Error!

Hello everybody this is Colt45 (the new author here), I have recently updated my Playstaion3 using wireless. But when I restarted my system after it finished installing it wouldn’t work! The PS3 turned on, but my wireless controller would not connect (even if it was plugged into the USB port) and on my screen it displayed the normal PS3 background but with no menu options… NONE! Below is a picture:

After Sony found out that their last patch messed up everyone’s consoles, Sony decides to release a new patch (2.41) that would fix the errors in 2.40. The only problem is that people with the same or similar problems CAN’T use the system update option to fix it because it is not shown on your menu and you cannot download it from a computer and use a USB device to transport it to the PS3 because the controller does not work so you can’t run it! When it all comes down to it… Sony just really screwed this one up! :-P

The Sims 2 Bon Voyage – Another new expansion pack for the Sims 2

Yesterday i just received this new expansion pack for the Sims 2 series game, since i haven’t actually tested this game (because it just arrived yesterday, and i choose to install, test to see if the game is working as it should with numerous mods i’ve installed, and exit) so i can’t really talk to much about the new features inside this sixth expansion pack for the sims 2 other than you can get your sims to go on vacation to the new 3 vacation islands premade by the sims 2 developers itself

Although i find some of the new features included in this new sims expansion pack a little bit interesting (taken from Wikipedia) :

Ability to create custom destinations.
Ability to buy vacation homes.
New NPCs including ninjas, pirates, fire dancers, local chefs, various hotel staff, etc.
New creature, the Bigfoot.
Sims can learn skills such as local dances and local gestures from the locals at vacation destinations.
Sims may wear accessories such as rings, earrings, and necklaces.
Ability to walk to community lots instead of requiring a vehicle.
Secret lots in vacation destinations that can be reached by finding a map to them.
Ability to create beach lots.
Sims can now “Dig For Treasure” on Community, Vacation, or Home lots and discover random objects.

As a side note, based from what i’ve read about this game on Gamespot Website, this game is a little bit buggy (or perhaps more) according to a player review posted on gamespot :

This expansion, for those of us who could happily spend our lives traveling, is more fun than most of the others. But it is more than a bit buggy, and until you’ve checked out some of the online forums and chats you will have trouble creating your own getaway paradise. Which you will want to do.

And fortunately EA has released a patch for it (though i haven’t installed the patch yet, but i think it’s better to keep your sims 2 updated because that patch fix some serious bugs in Sims 2 Bon Voyage EP)

Here are the changelogs of the new patch for the sims 2 bon voyage :

Note: Not all fixes will take effect on existing The Sims 2 Bon Voyage saved games. If you have an existing lot, Sim, object or neighborhood that does not seem to be improved by this patch, we recommend that you replace the affected object, or create either a new family, lot or neighborhood, depending on what is affected by the bug.

Sims will no longer have the option to call vacation service NPCs after acquiring the business perk “Head for Numbers” which was causing a crash.
Sims will no longer have the option to “Call Taxi” using their cell phones if they have driven to the community lot with an own-able vehicle which was causing a crash.
If the Sim misses the shuttle, it will no longer return to a vacation lot without the Sim at the end of the vacation. Sometimes, this caused the vacation lot to become unusable.
Game will no longer create new vacation NPCs each time a lot is visited which was causing many issues due to character file overload. Any existing extra NPCs will be unlinked and their character files greatly reduced in size.
Periodic Events Controller will no longer loop twice per hour through each neighbor which was causing extreme lag on certain machines.
Autonomous water-balloon and snowball fights have been tuned so the interaction will occur less frequently.

As a last note, this game use Securom ;)

Need for Speed Pro Street … Looks Great !!!

Okay … i’ve to admit the previous Need for Speed Carbon doesn’t really impress me at all, especially with it’s crash to desktop issue. But dang … the upcoming NFS Pro Street screenshot looks great especially the AE86 and the muscle cars (i don’t know what machine these screenshot were taken from, but i’m guessing it’s taken from PS3, though i may be wrong)

Though this one also looks great too :P

One thing for sure is, if EA released the Need for Speed Pro Street Demo, i’ll be sure to download right away

Mangos 4535 ScriptDev2 137 work with WoW 2.1.3, 2.2, and 2.2.2

I just noticed today that patch 2.2.2 has been released … and so that’s why i’ve decided to upload another release of WoW Mangos for WoW 2.2.2 but for optimal result you should use it on 2.1.3 though since 2.2 and 2.2.2 just gets released this week, so it’s not fully supported yet … but i’ve decided to upload this eventhough i just released 4524 few days ago …

Although i don’t see any problem at all (but that’s because of my lack knowledge about World of Warcraft itself) … but … at least the mangosd.exe process is not crash :P and it is still running in the background normally. As another note, since the only files changed in 2.2+ is just the DBC files, i’ve included the DBC files to make thing easier for you … and all you have to do is just extract the VMaps and Maps files and then configure the datadir, and lastly you just need to import the database

But i think it’d be better if i list the steps :)

UPDATE : If you just recently upgraded into WoW 2.2.3 … please check my new Mangos 4577, Scriptdev2 140 and with Project Silvermoon and Unified Database included ;)

Requirements :

Reaper-X Mangos Batch File update – Overwrite the old / included reaper-x-mangos.bat inside reaper-eazy-mangos directory from the above link with this one, this update fix the problem where the rate changer is not properly written :)

Upgrading from previous Mangos 4488, 4505, and 4525 release :

Note : Look for my previous post for MySQL Installation guide, because i assume you’ve done installing and configuring mysql ;)

1. Copy the dbc files included overwriting previously extracted DBC Files

2. Run the reaper-x-mangos.bat inside reaper-eazy-mangos directory, and choose to backup your character first

3. Then choose Installation / Upgrade … and wait until finished

4. Now choose the Restore option to restore your precious character data

5. Choose the option to adjust the datadir, and configure the exp rate, etc …

6. Now you need to go into your World of Warcraft installation directory, and then delete the Cache directory there and then run mangosd.exe and realmd.exe you’re done

Optional : Since this 4535 release, i’ve modified the batch script so to those who want to change their realm name can do it using the menu provided instead of executing the sql queries manually :)

Fresh Installation :

1. Copy all files from MapExtractor directory and VMaps Extractor and Assembler into your World of Warcraft Installation directory and then run extract-map.bat first and wait until it’s finished, after finished now you need to run the makevmaps_SIMPLE.bat and wait until Press Any Key To Continue Message appear (that mean you’ve finished extracting the VMaps) … before that message appear don’t close that window (don’t worry it’ll took a while to finish this process) :)

2. After finished with the previous steps, now you just need to move the VMaps and Maps directory which is created automatically from the previous step into the same directory as your DBC Directory

3. Now you just need to follow the upgrade process, because the next steps is just the same like the Upgrading process with the exception if you’re doing a fresh install, you don’t need to perform backup first

Another note : WoW 2.2 and 2.2.2 still not fully supported by Mangos, so if you found any errors message when used on WoW 2.2, or 2.2.2 … you just need to wait until the Mangos team has released the fully compatible … this is just a quick and dirty way so you can play on WoW 2.2.2 which is just released today

Frequently Asked Questions about WoW Mangos Error Message

Since there still many people who still having problem with their Mangos Server, based from the number of comments i received so far on this site. I’ll try my best to explain what all those error messages means, so here goes the lists

Note : If you’re using older mangos release, i’d suggest you to upgrade first because i won’t be able to answer your question if you’re using a historic release or old release. And currently this is based on my latest 4524 (if you’re using my previous 4488, or 4505 release … try to upgrade first because in 4524 i’ve already created an even easier batch script so you don’t really need to know about varios MySQL Queries command)

As a side note, if you’re running World of Warcraft TBC version below 2.1.3, i can’t give you any support on this … unless you’ve upgraded your WoW Client into 2.1.3 or 2.2

1. The most frequently asked question is 04331.map not exist error message so mangos can’t be started ?

The answer to that question is … did you run the extract-map.bat from your World of Warcraft Installation Directory ? and if so … did you wait until the process finished completely without interrupting it. And it’ll take a while to extract all maps completely but that’s depend on your computer specs. It took 6 minutes for the process to finished completely on my computer, and oh … i’ve done the extraction process for about 5 times or more, and i can locate the 0004331.map just fine by using Windows Search Function which mean the extraction process is successful

If you’re sure you can locate the 0004331.map using your Windows Search Function, try looking at the datadir section of your mangosd.conf (if you’re using my 4524 release you can just use the reaper-x-mangos.bat to edit the datadir) or you can edit it by yourself using Notepad / Wordpad or other text editor and make sure the datadir point to where you put the Maps, DBC and VMaps directory

For example if you put like on below image for example ( I:\WoW\Data )

You should write DataDir = “I:\WoW\data” as your datadir (with quotes and don’t copy paste from here because this software automatically transform quotes into curly quotes)

Also DataDir = “I:\WoW\data” or DataDir = “I:/WoW/data” is just the same, i can use them both without problem, although on some system you should use backslash (“/”) from various response

2. Could not find 001_33_39.vmdir or other vmdir related error message ?

Did you copy all files inside Tools\VmapExtractAssembler into your WoW installation directory ? and then run the makevmaps_SIMPLE.bat and wait until the process finished without interrupting it ? and one more thing :

if you see vmap_assembler.exe buildings vmaps splitConfig.txt displayed on the command prompt screen, you just need to wait until you can Press Any Key To Continue message appear on your screen

3. ERROR:Could not connect to MySQL database at 127.0.0.1 ?

That error message mean, you haven’t started the MySQL process yet … did you follow my previous guide on how to install MySQL ? and another thing to keep in mind that you need Administrator Privilege in order to do that, and if you still get error message saying can’t bind or something. Make sure that :

There’s no mysql process running in background, to check it open the task manager and then look for mysql under the process list tab. This thing can happen if you previously using repack that include mysql into their repack

4. Could not locate locale-enUS.MPQ, patch-enUS-2.MPQ, or other enUS-MPQ related error ?

That mean you’re using different WoW version, you just need to edit extract.bat inside the DBC Extractor directory like below :

mpqe /d “.” locale-enUS.MPQ *.dbc
mpqe /d “.” patch-enUS.MPQ *.dbc
mpqe /d “.” patch-enUS-2.MPQ *.dbc

Into the correct MPQ filename, for example locale-enGB.MPQ

And another note, you’ll need .NET Runtime 2 in order to run the DBC Extractor

5. Friends could not connect from LAN or stuck in realm loop ?

Make sure you’ve change the realmd.realmlist ip address into your lan Address, and if you’re currently have mangos running close it first before adjusting it into your IP Address

Because some people keep having problem with changing the ip address into their lan ip address, i’ve created the batch script in my 4524 release so you just need to write your LAN IP address when asked (by choosing the LAN option from the menu first of course) … that’s it

But if you don’t know what is your lan ip address … i can’t help you with that

WoW Mangos 4524 modified to work with WoW 2.1.3 and 2.2

Another WoW Mangos Release time … basically this release is to those who’s prefer to stick with their WoW 2.2 Client and not planning on reverting to the previous 2.1.3 patch. And i’ve only done a small modification so that it’ll accept the 2.1.3 and 2.2 client only. But as a note, 2.2 is still not officially supported yet by the Mangos team (and i don’t know when it’ll be fully supported). So if you found any errors message when used on 2.2 client you just need to be patience :P

As an addition, from this release i’ve decided to stick with only 1 release that contain the full database dump (because of my slow connection), but to those who’s already using my previous wow mangos 4488 and mangos 4505 compilation, you don’t need to worry about it because you can also upgrade from your previous version without problem ;)

One more thing, the batch files i’ve created is only tested on Windows XP SP2 … i haven’t tried it on Vista yet, so to those who’s running Vista perhaps could give it a test and tell me is it working for Vista too or not :)

Update : If you’ve just upgraded into 2.2.2 recently, and not planning on reverting your wow installation to 2.1.3 or 2.2 … you can try my new Mangos 4535 Release (ScriptDev2 137, extracted DBC from WoW 2.2.2)

Okay … and here are the steps to use it :

Requirements :

1. MySQL : Look at my previous post more info about installing mysql

2. .NET Runtime 2 or other files that is related to your system (if you get error message saying that MSVCx.dll can’t be found or missing runtime … you just need to go to Microsoft website to download it … although this is a rare case but it seems that some people experiencing this issue)

Upgrading from Previous Version :

1. Extract the archive somewhere in your harddisk for example C:\reaper-mangos-R4524 and then go to reaper-eazy-mangos directory

2. Run the reaper-x-mangos.bat and choose the option to backup your data and wait until the process finished

3. After finished with the backup process, then you’ll be at the menu screen once again … and this time you just need to choose Installation from the menu … and wait

4. Now you just need to choose Restore, to restore your character data …

5. Now for the last step … you just need to choose the Mangos Config Editor from the menu and adjust it accordingly (especially at the datadir to point to the previous data directory location) … and you’re done

Fresh WoW Mangos Install :

Note : All tools located in tools directory

1. Copy all files inside the MapExtractor Directory into C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft (this is the default installation path for World of Warcraft) and then run the extract-map.bat

2. Copy all files inside VmapExtractAssembler into C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft and run makevmaps_SIMPLE.bat … and wait again until it finished

3. Copy all files inside DBC Extractor into C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS … and run the extract.bat … and wait until it finished

Note : in order to use DBC Extractor you’ll need to have Microsoft .NET 2 Runtime (search the microsoft website for it)

4. Move vmaps, maps, and dbc folder from your World of Warcraft game directory into C:\reaper-mangos-R4524\data (create folder named data first)

the rest is just the same like the upgrade process with the exception, you don’t need to choose to backup or restore your data

And after finished everything as specified in the upgrade process, you just need to run mangosd.exe and realmd.exe and add your own username by typing create blabla blabla as shown on below image :)

As a bonus, i’ve also added a realmlist ip changer (in the menu) so those who’s having problem with configuring their realmlist to be accessible from LAN, can use it to make things easier ;)

Special Note to WoW 2.2 Users :

If you previously haven’t extracted the DBC files, maps and vmaps files from your WoW 2.1.3 client, and you get an error message saying that Patch-enUS-2.MPQ can’t be found … you can just safely ignore that error message

I’ve tested the 2.2 Client with this modified 4524 Mangos and everything seems to work fine (but perhaps that’s just me since i never played on official server) except that you’ll see lots of message on your mangosd window

And of course that’s because 2.2 is still not supported yet by Mangos … but to those who’s running wow 2.1.3 all i can say is … everything seems to be good and you won’t see message that’s only get shown when running the WoW 2.2 client ;)
