Copyright www.reaper-x.com | Have you tried using Optimized Firefox Build ? by Reaper-X

So yesterday i decided to use an optimized Firefox build because the default Firefox build takes long time to load (even Opera is fast than Firefox installed on my system). Previously i think it was normal because i had many Firefox extensions installed

But … since i'm really curios about it, i decided to take a look at various Optimized Firefox Build for specific processor and found pigfoot firefox build site

As for the rest, i think you already guessed it … i downloaded the P3 Build because of this reason :

P3 build build with /GAL7 arch:SSE2 and mmoy’s SSE2 patches, for AMD Athlon 64, AMD Sempron, Pentium D, Pentium M, Pentium 4 and Celeron 1.7 GHz+

then extract it somewhere and then move it to replace the original Firefox installation on my system (because this build does not have installer). And this all means, i'm still using my previously installed firefox extensions and such stuff

As guess what ? the time required for loading Mozilla Firefox even with many extensions installed reduced by more than 50% (seriously, i’ve tested it many times because i do not believe it at first), compared to the original Firefox build that take ages to load

As for pages loading time, i did not notice any improvement at all (because – In my opinion – pages loading time are affected by your internet speed not your browser although if it is for me, my squid cache proxy really helped me a lot)

So … if you’re using Medium – High End processor and want to see how Optimized Firefox are better than the default build, i’d suggest you to use it too

Update :

I just found another great build by Tete and it can be found at this page. He provides various Firefox Builds for specific processor instruction or specific processor :)

And here’s the Firekeeper description taken from the project page :

Firekeeper is an Intrusion Detection and Prevention System for Firefox. It is able to detect, block and warn the user about malicious sites. Firekeeper uses flexible rules similar to Snort ones to describe browser based attack attempts. Rules can also be used to effectively filter different kinds of unwanted content

Other features of Firekeeper :

Ability to scan incoming Firefox traffic - HTTP(S) response headers, body and URL and to cancel processing of suspicious responses

HTTPS and compressed responses are scanned after decryption/decompression

Very fast pattern matching algorithm (taken directly from Snort)

Interactive alerts that give an ability to choose a response to detected attack attempt

Ability to use any number of files with rules and to automatically load files from remote locations

As a note, the currently available Firekeeper release is still in Alpha stage, which main purpose is to get feedback from users about Firekeeper's functionality and to test if Firekeeper works well on various different systems. Currently Firekeeper support Linux based OS and Windows based OS

Copyright www.reaper-x.com | Do you like to spoof your user-agent ? by Reaper-X

I know most people don't really like if there’s someone using faked / spoofed user-agent .. but i think it's really fun on doing this especially if you’re using a spoofed Internet Explorer user agent from your Mozilla Firefox / Opera browser .. because for some website they choose to show specific content / area dedicated for IE users.

For example, if you’re using Wordpress as your website content management system, and you’re using Internet Explorer browser to open your admin pages. You’ll see a link to BrowseHappy on the footer of your admin pages (and i’ve never seen it before until i faked my user agent string) .. or maybe you could find it on some other site as well :-)

And as a note, if you’re using Firefox as your main browser and want to spoof your user agent easily. You might be interested on reading my previous article about list of useful firefox extensions (at least for me)

And yet another note, if you’re using Squid Cache Proxy on your computer, you can also use it to spoof your user agent string as well :-) … for more information on configuring squid cache you can try reading my previous post about configuring squid proxy in windows (i didn't explain it clearly there but if you’re already familiar with squid configuration, you can do it easily)

Copyright www.reaper-x.com | Mozilla Firefox, PDF Files and XSS by Reaper-X

I read about this yesterday on BugTraq and within just one day i read another interesting news from Symantec (i found it via techmeme) regarding this new xss issue with pdf files

And what makes this interesting, because this problem only occur at Mozilla Firefox browser (with Adobe Reader 7 and below), and Internet Explorer 6 and 7 isn't affected by this vulnerability issue as noted by Symantec :

This problem appears to be limited to the Firefox browser, which has a relatively large user base.

Although some other people are getting different results (look at the comments), and if it's for me .. i already tried this with Firefox 2.0.0.1 installed on Windows XP SP1 .. and i don't find any problem with it .. and that’s because i already disabled the PDF / Adobe Reader Plugin for Firefox browser since a long time ago because of another reason (actually i don't really like opening files directly from the web especially PDF because it can cause a big slowdown to my system)

As a note, if you’re using Firefox you might try reading the Symantec weblog about this issue to find the quick fix for this problem

Use NoScript Extension

Disable Javascript Completely on Firefox 2

Yep that’s all … by the way i just tested it with / without javascript enabled and the result is :

If you enabled Javascript in Firefox with / without additional extension .. you’ll see firefox crashed

If you disable Javascript .. then you can see the page without problem :D

And just in case you want to run it on your own computer without loading that page first .. here’s the script (copied from that page) :

<script type="text/javascript">
function do_crash()
{
var range;

range = document.createRange();
range.selectNode(document.firstChild);
range.createContextualFragment('<span></span>');
}
</script>

Copyright www.reaper-x.com | More Tools Menu 1.1 Extension Destroy My Toolbar by Reaper-X

It seems new software (in this case it was firefox extension) update can bring you problem instead of fixing the previous bug. And i just experienced this a few minutes ago … because i made an update to the More Tools Menu (the previous installed version was 1.0.6) before i decided to update into version 1.1. And guess what after installing the MoreToolsMenu 1.1 and restarting firefox ?

Bang .. every toolbar i’ve created disappear, also the Bookmark Toolbar Folder can't be seen anywhere (except on the Bookmark Menu of course) .. and every extension that provides access so it can be displayed on toolbar also disappear from the customize toolbar selection .. the worse thing is, i haven't created any backup to my firefox configuration since the last time i did it … 2 months ago

Fortunately because i only updated 2 extension at the same time, i tried to disable them both and see if it's fix the problem and after restarting Mozilla Firefox 2, it seems i can locate the other extension from Customize Toolbar Selection. And this time because i'm still curious i tried to disable those two extensions, one by one

After finding out that More Tools Menu 1.1 is the source of this problem, i overwrite it from the old version (1.0.6) .. fortunately the author still keep the old version there and also allow directory listing so it makes the whole thing easier for me.

I decided to overwrite it directly and restart .. and hope it’ll fix the Bookmark Toolbar problem automatically .. but .. it seems .. i’ll have to do it manually because it didn't work by simply overwriting it and restarting firefox. But the good thing is … the 1.0.6 version works without problem :P

So what did i do next to make the Bookmark Toolbar folder work ? simple .. by opening the Customize Toolbar Menu .. and choose to restore the default set, you can see the Bookmark Toolbar again .. the bad thing is, if you already create custom toolbar to simplify access to some extension .. you’ll have to recreate it again from scratch … and the good thing is .. you don't have to create new profiles again :P

Actually it just a simple keyboard shortcut to provide automatic url completion so you don't have to type www and the domain extension such as .com, .net or .org in Firefox.

And here’s the shortcut key :

SHIFT + ENTER : Will automatically complete a .net domain, for example type reaper-x and then press shift + enter it’ll become www.reaper-x.net automatically

CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER : Will automatically complete domain name using .org extension

CTRL + ENTER : Will automatically complete domain name using .com extension

That’s all .. simple isn't it ? if you want to know more about default firefox you should read the Firefox help page because if you didn't know about this simple keyboard shortcut that means you’re not the type of person that likes to read a readme file or such stuff eventhough the filename already told you to read it :P

As a side note, i’ll only list the newly installed extension on my Firefox because i’ve already post most of the useful firefox extension before, so try read my previous post about the <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/2006/09/09/list-of-the-most-usefull-firefox-extension.htm"title="My recommended firefox 1.5 extension" >recommended firefox 1.5 extension first before reading this because most of them can be used on Mozilla Firefox 2.0 as well.

ChatZilla : This extension usefull for those who don't want to use another program to chat on IRC based protocol, and that means you can chat using your Mozilla Firefox brower without the need for external application.

FireBug : This extension only useful for web developer because you can debug your Website easily for javascript errors, etc.

IE Tab : With this extension, you can see how the current page you're viewing displayed on Mozilla Firefox renderer using Internet Explorer engine, and of course this is very useful for Web developer. Because you can see how your page looks on Internet Explorer without the need to run Internet Explorer first. Other than that this extension also quite useful for non developer.

Modify Header : Yet another HTTP Header modification tools integrated into Mozilla Firefox. As a side note you can spoof almost any related HTTP Header sent from your browser using this extension. Although it require you to know about HTTP Header first.

Search Status : This extension has the same function like Alexa Toolbar combined with Google Toolbar, for example this extension can gives you the current Google Pagerank and Alexa Rank of currently displayed website, but just i said before, this extension has the same function like Alexa Toolbar and that means ... this extension behave like Alexa Toolbar too (hint: SEO Specific) but this extension run on Mozilla Firefox not Internet Explorer.

SEOpen : Yet another Mozilla Firefox extension for SEO, it can perform many SEO Related tasks such as displaying backlink to current page / site viewed using various Search Engine like Google, MSN and Yahoo, displaying Alexa Traffic, etc. With the exception this extension does not behave like Alexa Toolbar or Search Status.

Stumble Upon : I forgot to put this into my previous recommended Firefox extension list, btw Stumble Upon is another social bookmarking site like Del.icio.us, but this one gives it users ability to rank the page viewed like Digg.

DNSStuff Toolbar : With this toolbar, you can use various service from DNSStuff to Whois domain name, check ip address, and many more easily.

Servstats : ServStats is a Firefox extension that lets users share statistics about web server connectivity and diagnose network failures.

ErrorZilla Mod : What this extension does is simply, adds an image to the error page for down domains, along with some helpful buttons: "Try Again," "Google Cache," "Coralize," "Wayback," "Ping," "Trace," and "Whois."

InfoLister : Need to simplify thing to create list of your installed Mozilla Firefox extension ? then you should use this extension :P

Okay that's all about it, if i find another useful Firefox extension i'll update this post or create another post (more likely i'll create another post because i was to lazy to edit current post) :P

But it seems it's already forgotten, so im going to post, on how to retrieve your Windows Live Mail account using your Mozilla Thunderbird (since i don't use Outlook, so you'll have to find another way to retrieve your Windows Live Mail / Hotmail Account). But i think it's okay if i put it in here ..

And here's the step :

Download <a href="http://webmail.mozdev.org/"title="WebMail Extension for Thunderbird" >WebMail Extension for Thunderbird

Download the Hotmail Component for WebMail Extension

and don't forget to install it after you''ve finished downloading it and restart thunderbird

After finished restarting Thunderbird, open the Hotmail component option from the Thunderbird extension page, and configure it like screenshot below :

As for the next step, you’ll need to open your account properties under server settings and set the POP3 server into : localhost and the username is using yourusername@hotmail.com and don’t forget to do the same to the SMTP server settings too … and that’s about it .. you’re finished .. :)

Unfortunately because the owner of that website doesn't allow me to put his content anywhere (i always respect other copyright and terms of use) ;) .. so you should go to his website for more info about this matter. You can visit his website at :

And yes, because i'm not a fanboy of specific software nor hardware so i post about this matter, because the most important to me is security, despite what the browser offer. Because no matter what you’re using if there’s a big security hole in it there’s no guarantee your precious data will be safe

After using <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox for a long time, i haven't post a single article about the most recommended <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox extension list .. but since you can find such article on the net easily, i'm going to post about my favorite list of <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox extension including it’s description in my own description not the author description. Unfortunately most of the extensions i'm currently using (which is my favorite extension) is not going to be interesting for most people except for several people. But you can judge it by yourself if it's a usefull extension or not ;)

<a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2144/"title="Advanced Dork" rel="nofollow">Advanced Dork : One of the most usefull extension to discover the potential from Google Search Engine to search to web

<a href="http://www.roboform.com/"title="Ai Roboform" rel="nofollow">Ai Roboform : This extension is good for someone who likes to visit website that use some sort of registration / login mechanism like forum, etc. Because this extension can remember your password and can fill web based form automatically so you don't have to type again (except in some case) .. unfortunately the free version can only remember 10 password or less

<a href="http://firefox.exxile.net/"title="All in one sidebar" rel="nofollow">All in one sidebar : This is a sidebar extension to replace the default <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox sidebar into an all in one sidebar so it's reduce the clutter on your sidebar (especially for those who like to use the <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox sidebar)

<a href="http://bbcodextra.extenzilla.org/"title="BBCodeXtra" rel="nofollow">BBCodeXtra : If you like to visit forum, you might like this extension because it can help you alot like formatting your text for example

<a href="http://www.scorpiondb.com/firefox/extensions/cookiesafe/"title="CookieSafe" rel="nofollow">CookieSafe : This extension can control which cookie are allowed to go into your computer, so you can guarantee that there’s no tracking cookie goes to your computer

<a href="http://www.customizegoogle.com/"title="CustomizeGoogle" rel="nofollow">CustomizeGoogle : This extension can customize how Google Search Engine looks, for example automatically remove Google Ads from the search result, etc

<a href="http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/"title="Download Status Bar" rel="nofollow">Download Status Bar : If you like to download files from web (using <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox browser of course) and want to control / monitor your downloaded files. This is the solution, because you can go to the downloaded folder automatically, beside if you’re downloading something from the internet this extension will automatically show the current status in the <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox status bar so there’s no need to use the default <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox download status window / tab anymore

<a href="http://www.downthemall.net/"title="DownThemAll!" rel="nofollow">DownThemAll! : Another extension for those who like to download something from the internet … this extension acts like a real download manager program, you can use multiple connection to download one files so it can be transferred much faster into your computer, etc … because most of you already use a download manager so you can use this tools without problem

<a href="http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/emmenu/"title="EM Menu" rel="nofollow">EM Menu : With this extension, you can access other <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox extension option easily … simple isn't it ?

<a href="http://www.rudolf-noe.de/"title="Execute JS" rel="nofollow">Execute JS : This extension can let you execute javascript easily … but i think you already know that by it's name, right ?

<a href="http://extended.spanglerco.com/"title="Extension Manager Extended" rel="nofollow">Extension Manager Extended : For those who has alot of extension installed, this extension allow to manage all of those extension easily. This extension allow you to look at the other installed extension ID easily so if there’s a problem with your installed extension and you can't delete / uninstall it from the <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox interface, you can use this tool to find the extension ID and delete it manually

<a href="http://showcase.uworks.net/"title="Firefox Showcase" rel="nofollow">Firefox Showcase : By pressing SHIFT+F12 you can see all the open tab in your <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox browser and navigate easily between tab … that’s it …

<a href="http://fireftp.mozdev.org/"title="FireFTP" rel="nofollow">FireFTP<a href="http://fireftp.mozdev.org/"title="FireFTP" rel="nofollow"> : If you want a free and simple FTP Client to transfer files easily in your browser, you can use this extension

<a href="http://flashgot.net/"title="FlashGot" rel="nofollow">FlashGot : If you’re using a 3rd party download manager like <a href="http://www.flashget.com/"title="Flashget" rel="nofollow">Flashget, etc. You can use this extension to combine <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox with them easily. This extension also provide support to most of major download manager out there. So there’s no need to worry your download manager software isn't supported by this extension

<a href="http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/"title="Greasemonkey" rel="nofollow">Greasemonkey : By using this tool you can use modify how web page looks or behave by using scripting function .. but i think only several people use this extension

<a href="http://headermonitor.mozdev.org/"title="Header Monitor" rel="nofollow">Header Monitor : This extension can show the HTTP Header on the status bar, for example you can see the PHP version used on some web server, etc

<a href="http://www.scorpiondb.com/firefox/extensions/jsview/"title="JSView" rel="nofollow">JSView : With this extension you can see Javascript used on page or CSS used on page easily

<a href="http://leetkey.mozdev.org/"title="Leet Key" rel="nofollow">Leet Key : This is for fun only (but this extension has saved alot of my time when playing at some site) .. especially for those who like to use 1337 word like that (i never use the transform to leet function) because this extension can transform your text into several format easily like converting from / into binary, leet key, encode your text, etc

<a href="http://livehttpheaders.mozdev.org/"title="Live HTTP Header" rel="nofollow">Live HTTP Header : With this tool you can see the HTTP Header in real time when you browse page … but most users won’t find this usefull

<a href="http://mozmonkey.com/"title="Lorem Ipsum Generator" rel="nofollow">Lorem Ipsum Generator : You can create some latin text which you can see on most test webpage. Here’s an example :

<a href="http://www.arantius.com/article/more-tools-menu"title="More Tools Menu" rel="nofollow">More Tools Menu : This extension will create a More Tools options on the toolbar so the original <a href="http://www.reaper-x.com/redir/firefox"title="Mozilla Firefox" >Mozilla Firefox Tools menu left untouched. This is usefull for those who use lots of extension

<a href="http://optimoz.mozdev.org/gestures/"title="Mouse Gestures" rel="nofollow">Mouse Gestures : This extension will let you feel the same Mouse Gestures function like in <a href="http://www.opera.com/"title="Opera" rel="nofollow">Opera browser. So you can use your mouse to navigate instead of using keyboard (but i rarely use this tools because i'm already used to keyboard) :P

<a href="http://noscript.net/"title="NoScript" rel="nofollow">NoScript : This extension will only allow trusted website to use javascript, because of security purpose of course.
