Message from Google Adsense Optimization Team

Okay so yesterday when i checked my adsense account, i just noticed that there’s a message on my adsense reports page … and to be honest, this is the first time ever i saw this message because previously it just left blank until yesterday (actually at first i thought that the Recent Message section on the reports page is just for decoration purpose only lol)

But the question is … what is the subject of the message actually that makes me interested on posting it ?

While here’s the actual message read :

Dear Publisher,

Here is your optimization report for the month of November. After an automatic review of your sites, we think you might be able to improve your monetization using the following tips:

You may be filtering ads that monetize well on your site.
How can I fix this? Dismiss this tip.

We hope these tips are helpful, and encourage you to experiment using different layouts and formats—no two sites monetize the same way!

Based from the above message, it seems that some of the url’s listed on my Google Adsense Competitive ad-filter might be able to improve my monthly earnings, and fortunately since there are only several urls listed on my competitive ad-filter page i can guess on which one to remove :D (beside i just put those url’s several days ago)

Anyhow … i’m really glad when i saw this message, because it really save my time from testing the competitive filter list :)

As a side note, i’m not the first publisher to receive this message because there are some other adsense publisher that receives this message as well … such as Dave Taylor from Askdavetaylor and Rusty Brick from SERoundTable

Google Adsense for Mobile now available

Google just recently announced the new adsense for mobile format to those who’s running a mobile website. Here are some excerpts taken from the Google Press Center :

AdSense for Mobile is intended for AdSense partners who have created websites specifically for mobile browsers, and who want to monetize their mobile content via contextual advertising. Like Google's other AdSense products, mobile text ads run on an auction model. The system automatically reviews the content of publishers’ mobile websites and delivers text ads that are relevant to the websites’ audience and content. Publishers earn money whenever mobile users click on the ads.

Unfortunately it seems that even if you own a website that is using English language you can’t still using this adsense for mobile, and that’s because i get this message on my adsense setup page :

We do not currently offer AdSense for Mobile in Indonesia.

So i guess that mean, this new adsense for mobile can only be used for publisher that is located in the following countries : US, England, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Russia, Netherlands, Australia, India, China, and Japan

Anyhow, even if i can still access the new mobile adsense options, i don’t think placing adsense on mobile supported web pages is a good idea, because most mobile users that use their mobile phone to surf around the web can be considered as tech savvy users that don’t usually click on ads. And could make them stop visiting your mobile page completely

Adsense checks in local currency

Well .. yesterday, i logged in into my adsense account and i saw a message there saying that right now it is possible for me to set the adsense payment using my local currency automatically (in this case it was Indonesian Rupiah)

But what’s the big deal about it ? well .. here’s what the adsense help center explain about local currency in adsense

Local currency checks: Google will convert your earnings from US dollars into your local currency if this option is selected. Available to publishers in more than 40 countries, local currency checks are generally less expensive to deposit at your bank, and take less time to clear. For instructions on selecting local currency checks as your form of payment, read How do I sign up for local currency checks?

And as you can see that by using local currency checks, i can clear my adsense checks faster than the usual (although i havent tried it yet because i only saw it yesterday) and they said that it would be less expensive to cashed it

But what make it strange is, when i look at the supported countries that Google was able to send checks in local currency. Indonesia wasnt listed there :( … hm … i guess this new feature is still new for Indonesian adsense users

Google Adsense has new beta referrals program

Most of you already know about adsense which is based on pay-per-click, but now Google Adsense add new referrals program for the adsense publisher which is based on pay-per-action program. Here’s the short description about this new Google Referrals program from the Google Adsense blog :

As with our current Google referrals, you'll generate earnings when your visitors click through to an advertiser's site and complete an action defined by your advertisers, such as a sale or sign-up. Because these actions are often more involved than a simple click or impression, advertisers pay more for these referrals, which can translate into higher earnings for your site

As you can see that this new program is just like the old pay-per-click type, with an addition that your site visitors must complete an action defined by the advertisers first

Unfortunately this beta program only open for specific publishers only (i'm pretty sure that most of the new publishers that is getting accepted with this beta program are large publishers only / or those who’s having large site)

Is it necessary to use Adsense click tracking program ?

I think most of you have already heard about various site which is using adsense as their monetization source getting banned from Google adsense because Google suspect them of click fraud activity even though they’ve done nothing wrong although only God knows who’s telling the truth. And because of it, there are various site that’s offering service to track your adsense click, or if you really care about privacy or dont want to share your adsense click info, you can also use open source adsense tracking program called Adlogger

But is it necessary for you to use those services or using various adsense tracker script out there ? if it’s for .. the short answer would be .. no, it’s not necessary to use click tracking software or services for adsense. But why ?

If you’re installing the adlogger to track your adsense clicks :

It’s not accurate even if you use Google Analytics to track your adsense click with the help of a javascript. It’s not going to report the actual stats, and only Google know about your detailed adsense statistic even for the click fraud activity if there’s any

Why it’s not accurate ?

There are various forum topic about this, and here’s what they said about adlogger :

From Webmaster World – 16 February 2007 :

Adlogger is kinda useless. First in firefox if you go over the ads it count 1 click. Also its no very compitable with ie7 and hundreds of other bugs
In firefox a "hover" counts a click

From DigitalPoint Forums – 11 March 2007 :

Adloger is worthless...i wouldnt bother with it. It doesn't track clicks it tracks mouse position over your adsense code

And the conclusion is adlogger also counts mouse hover a click. But don’t get me wrong, adlogger can be useful for you especially if you want to block specific ads from appearing on your site by adding the url that’s displayed on your adlogger statistic into your Google Adsense account under Competitive Filter List. And this could be useful to block those MFA (Made for Adsense) site

The alternative way to automatically generate various MFA site for you to use by one click is by using AdsBlackList

What about various 3rd party site that’s offering to track your adsense clicks ?

Although i’ve never used 3rd party click tracking service for my adsense ads, personally i do not recommend you to use them. Because if you use it, they can also track which keyword is best on your site. And in the end you just help them to make more money. So in this case i’d suggest you to use adlogger instead. But this is just from my own opinion

Is there any good adsense click tracker script out there ?

I do not know much about this, but from my point of view there’s no need to really track your adsense ads. Just leave it to Google (trust them in this case), beside there’s nothing you can do if you’re clicking on your adsense ads and got banned from Google Adsense or violating adsense guidelines .. and you might also interested on reading this topic from Webmaster World about click fraud

Korean Website sues Google because of Click Fraud

It seems the click fraud activity still exists but the question is .. who’s telling the truth ? is it Google or the suspected website (The Local Humor Website) ?

Google, the U.S. web search giant, faces a W30 million (US$1=W945) lawsuit in Korea. Humor University, a local humor website, announced on Sunday that it filed a suit against Google demanding W20 million in payments and W10 million in damages. Humor University said the American firm allegedly failed to pay for three months of online ads

Humor University said that it signed an agreement to host Google's Adsense ads and ran them for three months in late 2005, but Google refused to pay, citing click fraud. Humor University said Google never provided evidence to back up those claims – Full Story

Sorry if the title misleading, but i had enough of seeing various forums talk about how they say that adsense is not working for them or they can only make small amount of money from using adsense and decided to switch into other advertising network or method

And not that because i love adsense to death, but simply those who think adsense sucks, does not really know what they’re talking about. And so that’s why i decided to write this (other than that, you might be interested on reading my previous post about what i have learned from adsense)

Why did i say that ? first of all .. if someone say adsense is not working as it should on their website should at least know how to count unique visitors for their site, if their site can only bring 100 – 300 unique visitors per day .. then you should try to improve your website traffic instead of complaining about adsense

What if they say, they get lots of clicks but those clicks only worth $0.xx or almost next to nothing ? .. wow that’s good if you can get high CTR on your site there are possibility :

You’re using bad niche on your website
Because the adsense bot couldnt find useful keywords on your page, they decided to display Public service ads (PSA) that does not give you money even if there’s someone clicking on it

And now what if your site is getting huge amount of visitors daily but making low click through rate ? .. if this the case, then maybe you should play around with your adsense placement

So what’s the conclusion from this post ? simple, if you really want to make sure adsense is best for your site. Keep on increasing your site visitors to more than 1000 unique per day and see how adsense is performing on your site. And if you get low CTR try playing around with the adsense placement and see the results after one month. If its still not working as it should, then you can switch into other advertising network

Placing Adsense on unsupported language

Lately i’ve seen many website which is using adsense code on their site. Well .. if their website is using supported language in adsense, i think there’s no problem of course .. but if they’re using adsense on unsupported language ? well .. the Google TOS said that you should not use adsense on unsupported language because it’s the same as violating Google Adsense TOS and might caused you to be banned from Adsense (beside you’re not going to make money from it because the adsense will only display PSA ads)

And that’s why i ask the adsense team about this, because i’m planning on creating another site, and that site is not going to use supported language listed on adsense page

And here’s the reply from the adsense team :

Thanks for your email. At this time, we do not offer ad targeting for Indonesian; ad targeting and support is currently available for the languages listed here: https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=9727. If you place the ad code on pages with content primarily in an unsupportedlanguage, we may show public service ads or ads in another language.

Until we are able to offer this service targeted to your specific language, please remove the AdSense ad code from your site. We appreciate your patience as we expand our program.

If you have have concerns about sites which do not comply with our policies, you can email our specialists directly at adsense-abuse@google.com to help us investigate more efficiently.

From the above message it seems that Google adsense team did not read my email message carefully :P .. anyway … because google forbid placing adsense code on unsupported language .. i guess i’ll wait before creating new website using my local language :)

Adsense Display Issue or My adsense check has been stolen ?

Yesterday i just emailed the adsense team regarding my adsense payment for January, because on the payment history page i saw Google already send my adsense payment since 25 January 2007 and the check has been cleared on 27 February 2007 (the last time i checked my payment history page is on 26 February and i did not see my adsense check status has been cleared at that time). But the problem is until today (28 February) when i posted this i haven’t received the adsense check for January

And that’s why i ask the Google team whether my adsense check has been cashed by someone else or there is display error in their system. And .. today i already received a reply from them and here’s what it’s looks like :

Thank you very much for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that this is a display issue which our engineering team is aware of and is currently investigating - I'll be sure to send you another email as soon as I have any more information regarding your January payment.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for any confusion caused.

If it’s true there’s a system error on the Google Adsense website .. of course i'm very happy to hear it (but don’t get me wrong). Im happy to hear it because if Google said there’s a system error / display error somewhere that means my adsense check is still safe and has not been stolen and cashed by unknown person

As a note, i thought my adsense check has been stolen at first because i saw various post / article on the internet saying that their adsense check has been cashed by an unknown person. And most of them are come from a third world country like me

Well .. i just hope that my adsense check for january is still safe, and can be delivered to me although for most people it’s not much but .. if its for me .. well .. it means a lot :(

Update : I just received my adsense check today at 11:XX AM (thanks god) .. and that means, there’s an error at Google adsense system somewhere :D

Google Adsense with Amazon Omakase & Chitika

A few days ago i sent an email message to the Google Adsense team regarding the use of Chitika contextual ads and Amazon Omakase on the same page with Google Adsense (if you’ve read my previous adsense tips, you’ll know why i prefer to ask adsense team). And today i just received a reply from them (it's took a little longer than usual to received this email message, but im fine with that because in their auto-generated message, it says that due to the long holiday weekend in the U.S., there may be a delay in responding to your email. Please be assured that we'll respond just as soon as we can) ..

and here’s what they said about using adsense with other contextual advertisement :

Hi Aditya,

AdSense publishers may display ads from other contextual ad networks on the same page as Google ads only if the formatting or color scheme of these ads is sufficiently different from the layout of the Google ads. In other words, if you choose to place non-Google ads on the same site or page as Google ads, it should always be clear to the user that the ads are served by different advertising networks and that the non-Google ads have no association with Google. If the formats are naturally similar, we'd ask that you use different color schemes for the competing ads.

Of course, we're constantly investing in our advertising technology, and we believe that Google ads will monetize best for most publishers. Be aware that the addition of third party ads to your site may cause fewer users to click the Google ads on your site and thus your AdSense earnings may decrease. We'd also recommend that publishers be careful not to place excessive advertising on their sites, as doing so may result in fewer repeat visitors.

As you can see on that email message, it says that it is possible to use Adsense with Amazon Omakase and various Chitika product, as long as the other contextual ads are using different color schemes if the competing ad service offer similar format like adsense

Other than that i also agree that plastering your site with various advertisement will reduce your site visitors, but in my opinion … my site is still better than many other site / blog which is using advertisement on their site .. ;)

Adsense Biggest Secrets

I think most of you already seen that words somewhere else (ebook, website, your friends, etc). Or any other similar words / questions, such as increasing adsense income, adsense tips and tricks, best adsense size, and many other (if you’re thinking on making money from google adsense)

But the question is, do you really believe that there’s someone out there are going to give out their biggest secrets to you ? beside as far as i know that most of the adsense tips and tricks website out there is just doing some copy, paste, and modify from the official adsense terms or the official adsense optimization tips page

First of all i don't mean any offense by creating this article. Because simply i’ve had enough of seeing various adsense tips and tricks website / blog being created every day (with the above explanation). And thats the reason on why i decided to write this

Okay .. now what is the answer to adsense biggest secrets ? the answer to that question is really simple .. and that is Traffic and Niche .. period

Why i only say traffic and niche are the adsense biggest secrets ? well .. here’s the answer :

Traffic :

The only secrets out there that gives you an ability to make money from your site is only your website traffic. Don’t trust my words ? then feel free to open the Weblogs Inc – Google Adsense case study (from Google itself) that can make 4 digits a day

As an addition, if you’re seeing some website out there that telling you which adsense ad format are the best .. just ignore them. And the reason to ignore them is that because every website have different layout … and that means you’ll have to play around to know which adsense ad format are the best for your site (please keep this in mind, if you’re going to test which ad format is the best for your site, test it for at least 1 month). Well that’s all about it

By the looks of that Google adsense ads i found while browsing the Problogger site, it seems the dot com mogul John Chow love Darren Rowse .. erm .. i mean .. his blog :-P

Now .. that’s what i call interesting ads .. maybe other Adwords user should use the same method like this too .. lol

( Fortunately i temporarily disabled the ad filtering program, because if those ad filtering program activated .. there’s no way i could see something like this )

Maybe Darren Rowse should create something like this too on John Chow blog … :-D

Images next to Google Adsense Ads

Google adsense team finally write a clear information regarding the use of images next to the adsense ads on their official Google Adsense Blog

Quoted from the Official Google Adsense Blog :

We've recently received a number of emails from publishers asking how we feel about the placement of images near Google ad units. There's been some confusion on this issue, and so we turned to our policy team to set the record straight.

Can I place small images next to my Google ads?

We ask that publishers not line up images and ads in a way that suggests a relationship between the images and the ads. If your visitors believe that the images and the ads are directly associated, or that the advertiser is offering the exact item found in the neighboring image, they may click the ad expecting to find something that isn't actually being offered. That's not a good experience for users or advertisers.

Publishers should also be careful to avoid similar implementations that people could find misleading. For instance, if your site contains a directory of Flash games, you should not format the ads to mimic the game descriptions.

What if I place a space or a line between my images and my ads? Would that work?

No. If the ads and the images appear to be associated, inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads will not make the implementation compliant.

Does this mean I can't place ads on pages with images?

You can definitely place Google ads on pages containing images -- just make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors. For example, if you run a stock photography site with a catalog of thumbnail images, don't line the ads up with the thumbnails in a way that could be misleading. Consider using a full border around your ads or changing your ad colors, for example.

What do unacceptable implementations look like?

Here are some examples that wouldn't comply with our policies.

Although it doesn't really matter to me, because just as i said before .. i’d choose the safer route along my adsense placement. But if you’re already using images near your adsense ads, then you should think twice before using it (beside with the safer route you can still generate revenue from your adsense account) ;)

Use Adsblacklist to filter MFA Websites

Some of you especially for those that place adsense on your site maybe already heard about adsblacklist, and some people saying that by using it they can make better earning from their adsense account daily, although some of them are also saying that never use such ad filtering service because it will make your daily earning lower than the usual

But instead of talking user experience, now i'm going to talk about Made For Adsense or known as MFA Website. First of all MFA website were built specifically so the owner of that website can make greater earning from his / her adsense account simply by using Adwords to promote his site. And in return he / she put his / her adsense account on their website

If you already notice that your website generate high CTR on your adsense account but you only get a small amount of money daily then most probably it’s because those MFA website are filling your website with their low pay per click advertisement. And the question is .. should you filter it from your adsense account or leave it ?

Well .. i think there are various answer to that question, but if it's for me .. of course i’d block them from being displayed on my website simply because i don't want them to earn higher money than my own adsense account especially if they’re only paying small fee. Why did i say that ? simple .. because those cheater (i call them cheater) .. are placing low pay per click while they’re displaying medium to high pay per click ads on their website and in return they are generating profit from it instead of wasting money for their adwords and i don't want that to happen on my website

So .. what are you going to do next ? are you going to filter it or still using it on your website ? Well that’s your decision ;)

Blogkits Affiliate Marketing First Impression

Well because there’s a recent buzz about this new affiliate marketing program from Blogkits, now i'm going to give my own opinion about this .. and of course because my blog is not a popular blog out there like the big guy out there, you can get the basic idea behind affiliate marketing … and as a note i'm not a marketing expert and everything i write here is based on my own experience on this site since i built it few months ago .. so maybe you should give it a try first and see if it's doing well with your blog or not ..

But instead of talking about me or my own site, now i'm going to give you a good idea on how Blogkits affiliate program will work on your site compared to adsense or chitika which is uing a pay per click option and of course Commision Junction which is using affiliate based program like blogkits and my current webhosting as for the last opponent ..

Note: Keep this in mind, this is based from my own experience .. and i only place it on sidebar for the affiliate program i’ve joined … and i agree with John Chow post about this

Now i think you get the idea, who’s the winner judging from the above results .. even if i make a Four Way Death Match between Adsense VS Commision Junction VS Hostgator VS Chitika .. Adsense is still the winner .. although i'm not really making money from it

And the conclusion is, if you’re going to make money from affiliate program just make sure you’re creating a good niche / topic on your blog .. because if you just create random content, personal diary, and such stuff without a good traffic .. you’re not going to make money from it .. but each website can give you different results so maybe you should try everything you can before you can give your opinion about it ;)

But if it's for me .. maybe at a later time i'm going to use Blogkits .. as for now .. i'm still searching for other option to help me pay my monthly hosting plan :)
