ASCGEN2 - Image to Text Converter
By Reaper-X on Jan 17, 2008 in Freeware, Open Source, Software
So yesterday i just came across this wonderful program that can convert your image to ASCII for free (opensource) named Ascii Generator dotNET while i was lurking at Michael Sync Weblog and guess what ? the ascii produced by this image to text converter software is just great because i’ve tried many similar programs like this before and none of them can really give me good results (well … but that was more than four years ago). Other than that, this program can also produce colored ascii too

Anyway just in case you’re wondering how good this program, here’s a sample image (if Michael use Tifa from FF Advent Children as his sample, then i’m using Keiko Kitagawa as sample) :P

P.S Full credits to the person who took this photo (i can’t remember where i get this image and i’m 100% sure it’s not from Google Image search because i rarely use Google Image search)

Hey man, your blog has been changed a lot... it's really awesome... man. keep it up....
thanks for this reaper :)
just a few questions, some related to this:
#1, how'd you make it coloured? i can only get mine in the normal defalt one.
#2, do you, or anyone, know any really good pictures to use in it?
#3, the none related question, how'd you create this website? with you own domain as well? (www.reaper-x.com, not reaper-x.------.com or http://www.------.com/reaper-x)
thanks,
steve
about my question #3, it added 'http://' onto the last link by itself. the link DOESN'T work so dont try it. sorry if it causes confusion, i didnt know that would happen,
steve
gave this a try...keeps crashin..i have the framework 2.0 ...still does =/ ah well...seemed interesting heh
I wouldn't be suprised if this was country limited, but I am not sure.
Hi Steve,
You can choose whether you want this in color or black-white version before saving the image.. (Try to test image with a lot of bright colors (e.g: red) )
@Sephiroth
You can download the sourcecode from that project. and you can try to compile it yourself. I have tested it in my machine. it's working fine. but I have Visual Studio 2008.
Hi Oatman,
What do you mean by "Country Limited"?
@Michael Sync
I am working with visual studio 2005, and it keeps saying it can not open the source =/ was gonna try to compile it myself but cant get it open...thanks for the help for tryin though ^^ dont know if anyone else can compile it to an exe for use? id like to give it a try heh
#Michael Sync
Thanks for telling me :)
Also, can anyone answer my other two questions?:
#2, do you, or anyone, know any really good pictures to use in it?
#3, the none related question, how’d you create this website? with you own domain as well? (www.reaper-x.com, not reaper-x.——.com or http://www.——.com/reaper-x)
thanks,
steve

Hey thanks for coming, btw your site also changed a lot :D
# Sephiroth
ah unfortunately the project file is for VS2008 (created with VS2008 express)
# Steve
2. anything that looks good :P
3. Well in order to create it :
- You need to buy your own domain name first
- Get a hosting plan from webhosting company
- and the rest is up to you on how you're going to create your website ;)
#Reaper-X
thank you :)
i might leave out the buying domain part for now but still thank you :)
Steve
Is it possible to recompile this into a new exe that would be more compatible with people that do not have visualstudio 2008? Since i do not have it i do not know the capabilities of VS2008 ^^
Hi Sephiroth,
It's not good for me to compile the sourcecode with 2005 and upload it to somewhere since I'm not a member of that development team.. but there are two options ~
- You should install VS 2008 express or VS 2008 professional in your machine. As we are developers, we have to keep on learning about new technologies.. sooner or later, you will have to install VS 2008 anyways.. so, it won't be a mistake if you install VS 2008
- Or you can ask the development team to build 2k5 compatible version for you.. :)
