I noticed this about a week to 10 days ago as well, and I am in Detroit. I think it may actually be a DNS issue. Do any of you use OpenDNS on your router? That's the only thing I can think of. I doubt it's anything internal, you would think big G would clue us in. Also has anyone noticed other sites that have embedded Google search are taking forever to load. I found this on vanityfair.com and pitchfork.com yesterday but the problem seems to have disappeared today.

I first noticed it beginning last week with google.com and it's getting slower. Although google.co.uk seems ok which is where I am. Similarly I've found yahoo.com slow to return search results with uk.yahoo.com much quicker. Although the obvious explanation seems to point at a US to UK problem, ask.com is just as quick as uk.ask.com ?????

I am wondering too. Most of my work rely on Google Products and I am using Google for searching online. At first, I thought it was just my connection, but then I tried searching in Yahoo, and it went fine. I am glad to find this post, and that means I am not alone experiencing this problem.
