A few days ago i was using Feed Reader as the primary news reader application .. but because i had several problem with it, mainly a script error message just like on Internet Explorer .. i decided to switch into another feed reader (and of course i only search for a free feed reader) .. :P
And after searching the web for a good rss reader (and free) application i found RSS Bandit which is quite good and i use it for several days (it works fine without problem) but … i feel there’s better application and get updated frequently .. i found another good rss reader called RSSOwl (actually i’ve already seen it before i know about RSS Bandit) but i never thought that it’d be this great .. so for those who’s looking for a free news reader that’s support various platform .. i’d recommend RSSOwl as your primary news reader .. (actually i post this because there’s search engine query to this site searching for an open source feed reader) :P
NOTE: You’ll need to get Java Runtime Environment first in order to use RSSOwl .. feel free to choose between the stable Java Runtime 1.5 or the new Java Runtime 1.6 RC

I've got a review for a reader I use that I feel is far superior to RSSOwl. It's also GPL and cross platform which makes it even better (I have to use Windows at work and choose to use Linux @ home).
Blogbridge far and above the best RSS reader on the planet. Give it a try and you'll probably agree.
