More Tools Menu 1.1 Extension Destroy My Toolbar
By Reaper-X on Nov 21, 2006 in Firefox, Freeware, Guide, Journal, Mozilla, Software, Tutorials
It seems new software (in this case it was firefox extension) update can bring you problem instead of fixing the previous bug. And i just experienced this a few minutes ago … because i made an update to the More Tools Menu (the previous installed version was 1.0.6) before i decided to update into version 1.1. And guess what after installing the MoreToolsMenu 1.1 and restarting firefox ?
Bang .. every toolbar i’ve created disappear, also the Bookmark Toolbar Folder can't be seen anywhere (except on the Bookmark Menu of course) .. and every extension that provides access so it can be displayed on toolbar also disappear from the customize toolbar selection .. the worse thing is, i haven't created any backup to my firefox configuration since the last time i did it … 2 months ago
Fortunately because i only updated 2 extension at the same time, i tried to disable them both and see if it's fix the problem and after restarting Mozilla Firefox 2, it seems i can locate the other extension from Customize Toolbar Selection. And this time because i'm still curious i tried to disable those two extensions, one by one
After finding out that More Tools Menu 1.1 is the source of this problem, i overwrite it from the old version (1.0.6) .. fortunately the author still keep the old version there and also allow directory listing so it makes the whole thing easier for me.
I decided to overwrite it directly and restart .. and hope it’ll fix the Bookmark Toolbar problem automatically .. but .. it seems .. i’ll have to do it manually because it didn't work by simply overwriting it and restarting firefox. But the good thing is … the 1.0.6 version works without problem :P
So what did i do next to make the Bookmark Toolbar folder work ? simple .. by opening the Customize Toolbar Menu .. and choose to restore the default set, you can see the Bookmark Toolbar again .. the bad thing is, if you already create custom toolbar to simplify access to some extension .. you’ll have to recreate it again from scratch … and the good thing is .. you don't have to create new profiles again :P

Thanks! I just lost my bookmark toolbar in an extension update (not sure which extension, might have been Tab Mix Plus), and the default set button fixed the problem. A button I've never seen nor clicked came to the rescue :).
