Why ADSL in Indonesia is not that good
By Reaper-X on Oct 13, 2006 in Blogging, General Blogging, Internet, Personal
Telkom Speedy is the biggest telephone company in Indonesia, without doubt. But since i’ve been using their ADSL service which is only gives you a very small quota / bandwidth of 2GB / Month and with only 384Kbps download and 64 upload with it's high price (it’s cost for about $70–$80 / month), i think you deserved to get the best from it but since i’ve been with them … i always get disappointed with their service although at my first few month i never experience something like this before. As a side note, i’ve been their customer since January 2006
The problem came in June 2006 when Telkom Speedy continuously promoting their service through various media including Internet such as Yahoo and Friendster so they can get new customer / client and i think alot of new customer has been joining with Telkom Speedy since then, and that’s what caused major slowdown in their service. And what make me feel angry about this is, if their current international bandwidth can't handle a lot of customer then they should reject them in the first place instead of trying to get a new customer with them. And i know about this because :
- If you try to download some file(s) from the internet during day time / work time, you’ll see that your average download speed is only as fast as Dial Up users even from a high speed server. So what’s the point to get your self an ADSL service if you can only get slow speed during day ? Ooh yeah and don’t tell me to download everything at night / midnight or not at busy times because it's not worth getting ADSL if you still need to get up in the midnight
- Their customer (actually complain service) completely bad, because i’ve not call them for technical support since i was registered with them. And they’re not giving you any response through their complain form. Although you did get an answer (if it's for me, i did get a reply after sending complain for about 5 times or more), they’re not doing anything other than asking your access number and your name .. that’s it
As for the other reason, i can't think any of it. Because my only complain is Why there’s no difference between ADSL access speed and Dial Up speed ? Especially if i have to pay for about $75–80 US / Rp 750.000 – Rp 800.000 per month ?! .. Note : i assume $1 US = Rp. 10.000
Although there’s alot of other Speedy customer complain for various reason like why they always get disconnected after xXx times … i think that’s more related to your network / router setup because i’ve already experience this problem several times ( < 5 times ) and it can be fixed easily without calling for tech. support . But that’s depend on your computer technical stuff. etc .. etc
Ooh yeah actually i don't want to post something like this, but since i had enough with them i’ll post it to my blog … although there’ll be no differences if i posting it on the internet or not .. aah well .. hopefully i’ll post something like this again in the future. But one thing for sure, it’d be great if Speedy give it’s customer additional quota for example instead of 2GB / Month, it’d be better if they raise it at least to 10GB / Month.

is it that bad? coz im actually planning to go for speedy now..
well that's depend on your usage time, on work time (monday to friday) you'll notice a really slow internet access :)
and this is based on my own experience
Funny you mentioned Speedy being slow. I was using other providers before, but finally had to use Speedy (I'm in Kemang Pratama Bekasi). I've never enjoyed internet speeds that fast before (previously only as fast as dial up, cable modem, etc.), and so began to try out playing WoW on a freeserver located in New Zealand. The lag was minimal (I could even have a bitlord download running in the background at the same time!). I got hooked on this game and am now looking for more WoW servers closer to my town.
According to me, Speedy gets slow if your neighbors are also online (mine is not using his Speedy, because he's always on trips overseas). So, if you happen to be the only one using Speedy in the neighborhood, it is fast enough even for playing online games such as World of Warcraft or America's Army.
Next step, I have my eyes on 3G...
Keep up the good work.. If you need any servers to test on,or web hosting please let me know..
