How to use PCSX2 the Playstation 2 Emulator

Now im going to put some guide on how to configure PCSX2 to try out the PS2 Emulator. And since few people are asking is their system can play ps2, then the answer is no. You can’t actually play ps2 games on your pc right now (dunno for a real high end system which is using Dual Core Processor, SLI Graphics Card, etc, but to most users just wait for it), but if you want to help the PCSX2 team, you can do it by testing out PCSX2 and reporting any bugs you found to them.
First you must have PS2 Bios in order to try out the PCSX2 (you can find it easily on the internet) ;) and dont forget to put it into Bios Directory in your PCSX2 Directory
and the next step would be running the PCSX2 Executable and configure it like this (maybe different depending on your computer configuration, especially to those who are using SSE2 Enabled Processor, such as Pentium 4, Athlon64, etc)
1. Configuration Screen of PCSX2
2. Graphic Plugin Configuration Screen
3. Controller Configuration (since i dont own a joystick, im using Keyboard)
4. CDVD Plugin Configuration
Note: if you don’t have ASPI installed on your system use Win2k/XP IOCTL SCSI Command and set it into your DVD Rom Drive (if you’re not using ISO Image)
5. The next step would be putting your PS2 Games on your DVD ROM and choose to Run CD from File Menu … and pray hope it’ll work :P and in my case i was running Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi PAL Version
And that’s it … you’re finished ;)
Note: If you got an error message saying error opening gs plugin or something like that, most likely you’re trying to use ZeroGS Plugin and your vga card is not a Pixel Shader 2.0 Capable Card (ZeroGS require Pixel Shader 2.0 ++ Capable Card) .. and the only solution is using GSDX Plugin as the graphic plugin or get a new graphic card

Well … actually you cant download computer hardware from the internet but i think your question is about the lines :
btw could you send me a screenshot (you can use photobucket or imageshack and give me the url) ;) and what’s your pcsx2 configuration/setup ? since i dont quite understand what you’re talking about :) .. btw if you’re able to use ZeroGS then i think you’re using a high end graphic card because ZeroGS require pixel shader 2 card :)
hey man…thx for sending…now i’ve got another problem. i entered a burned game into my dvd rom drive. and i press run cd. the game closes and says Pscx2 Error report or w/e
i found ps2 bios on a torrent thing.

I did not buy this card, I downloaded it from the internet. The emulator goes at about 50++++ fps at maximum, but ingame and at the starting credits, the emulator slows down and gradually always goes back up to at least 30+++++fps. But there is no sound at the starting credits! There are lines in screen when playing DBZ Budokai and since there is no analog stick, I cannot move if I play Kingdom Hearts. Help would be appreciated.

try opening your inbox or junk folder just in case it goes into junk folder :)

of course you cant use the magic files for ps2 to be used with epsxe :) but try checking your inbox .. you might see something interesting there

Yes I had the bios long back but now I configured it.
Depending on your VGA card and your processor, if you’re sure that you’re already using SSE2 and your graphic card already pixel shader 2.0 + and you still get low frame rate, then just wait for another release of pcsx2

I have been tryin 2 configure pcsx 2 for 2 days.
My computer it junk to u all I mean it has under 100 ram + under 2000Mhz. But it always runs what I tell it to.

if the game you’re trying to play required some patches try downloading it from the pcsx2 forum, and if you’re lucky you might find it
and if you need to speed up process, that’s depend on your computer hardware but the most important thing is if you already using a very high end computer and still getting low framerate, the only solution is .. wait for another release of pcsx2
I got it to work… Now how do I speed up the process.. and umm It says that it is unable to process due to some patch? Was does that mean and if you can can you email it to me? Please Thanks@
What about starting the game? How do I start it?
What bios version you’re using and are you sure it’s the correct bios ? btw try using GSDX first and see if that error message still appear or not

Oh Yeah By the way. I ripped one of my PS2 games on my harddrive and now I was wondering if this is what it suppose to say… Kingdom Hearts II.mdf. Is the mdf the correct format? thanks

aah .. now i see that you’re using an onboard graphic card, try using Fixed Pipeline (but i still cant guarantee you can use pcsx2) because intel onboard graphic doesnt have pixel shader 1.1 ++ .. and although you can use the fixed pipeline you’re going to get really low frame rate .. the only thing i can suggest is get a new graphic card :(
I have the default graphics controller that came with my Dell Dimension… intel Graphics Controller. The computer is about 4-5 years old if that tells you anything.
When I try configuring the graphics plugin for GSdx9 SSE2, it doesn’t have anything in the Pixel Shader box except for “Fixed Pipeline(bogus),” so I can’t change it to 1.1, 2, 3, or anything.

What VGA card you’re using ? if you’re using Pentium 4 as your processor then there’s no problem for you to choose SSE2 version instead of SSE version ;)
btw GSDX only support Pixel Shader 1.1 (Geforce 4 titanium and below support pixel shader 1.3) and if you want to choose pixel shader 2 or already has a pixel shader 2.0 capable vga card then you should use ZeroGS
That’s the problem. When I try using GSdx9 with the SSE (I have a Pentium 4), there’s no drop down box that lets me change to Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher.

eh ? dunno why you’re choosing the old version of pcsx2 but i think the main problem is that you’re using incorrect bios files, because if you already has the correct ps2 bios then you can use it on any version (although the latest bios version is always better) .. for example i already own the bios since pcsx2 0.x (forgot the exact number of the old version) and it can be detected correctly until now ;)
but if you still insist on using the old pcsx2 version, just post it again here and i’ll upload it :) .. or try searching the pcsx2 website just in case they have a copy too
can u still email version 0.8.1 cuz then maybe I’ll have better luck with that.
im using pcsx2 v0.9.1 and can be detected without problem :)
What version of PCSX2 do you use again? Cuz 0.9.1 can’t detect the BIOS
maybe its not compatible / got corrupted, because i also have pcsx2 0.8.1 and can run it without problem
Man,another problem I’ve tried to configure 0.8.1like 0.9.1 and when I select CD\DVD plugin (Peops) I press RUNCD and it sais error opening CDVD plugin

well .. if you’re already using a high end pc then the only solution is wait for another pcsx2 release ;) .. btw you cant get a really high fps on every dragon ball game with the current version of pcsx2
I have a question ….Reaper-X when you play Tenkaichi it run fast because I fix Budokai 1 and when I’m ready to battle it works veeery slow and that’s booooooring

Well that’s easy just put the .bin file into bios directory of pcsx2 and configure it

If you’re not using a pixel shader 2 capable video card / direct x 9 compatible vga card and you’re trying to use ZeroGS plugin, you’ll get an error message. so try using GSDX9 plugin instead of ZeroGS and don’t forget to configure it
and don’t forget that GSDX has 2 version, the first is for SSE2 capable processor (intel pentium 4, sempron and athlon 64) and the other is non SSE2 capable processor (pentium 3, athlon xp series) .. so try using only one of the GSDX version
I’ve got the bios, quite a few of them actually, and all that good stuff… I’ve got a problem with my graphics configuration, though.
I’ve got the plugins that come with PCSX2, the GSdx9 and ZeroGS. However, when I try loading up my ISO, it always has a problem about the graphics configuration…
Somtimes it is about the Pixel Shader for GSdx9, which I can’t do anything about, since there’s no dropdown box for me to change that with. For ZeroGS, it just says “GS not working” or something.
I tried an older version of GSdx9, and I got the Pixel Shader to go to 2… but then whenever I tried loading the game, it said something about an error in reading a symbol.
I’ve got the BIOS. Now how are you supposed to use it? I’m totally lost after that. These are the names of the BIOSes I have. Please tell me what to do.
