Recommended PS2 Tools

Here’s a list of the most usefull PS2 tools ever released on the net (for free of course) ;) beside i’ve already tested it all and all this tools works great

Code (Gameshark, Codebreaker, ARMax) Converting / Decrypting :

PS2 Ripping Tools (although i’ve already put this on my previous post but i forgot to add the link to the official website, so i put it again together in here) ;) :

Note: The official site is in Japanese, but if you don’t want to download each one of these files you can download it from my uploaded files (included in my previous post about ripping PS2 Movie)

  • PSS Demux (used to Demux Audio and Video from PS2 Stream : PSS Demux
  • PSS Player (used to play directly the PS2 Stream without demuxing it first, if you dont like to convert it into another video container first) : PSS Player
  • MFAudio (can be used to demux and convert the PS2 Audio Stream into standard WAV format) : MFAudio

Note: If you need to download cheating devices like ARMax, Codebreaker, Gameshark, etc. You can contact me directly for more information about this ;)

Save Game Converter :

FTP Server Program (for use in PS2 Machine) :

Note: for those who cant copy the ELF executable into your ps2 memory card in order to run it from ExecFTP Standalone version, choose the ExecFTP ISO Image version as temporary solution and burn it into blank CD-R using your favorite burning program in order to run the ExecFTP program … but you’ll need swap magic trick if you’re not using Modchip on your playstation 2 console. (im going to create some tutorial on this topic in the future, so dont forget to bookmark this site) :P

PS2 Bootable CD / DVD Creating tools :

  • Dummy File Creator : Use this tools to create a dummy files on your burned ps2 cd / dvd
  • CDGen 3 : this is the tools used to create a bootable CD / DVD Structure for your burned ps2 disc

PS2 Media Player to play Divx / XVid video on your PS2 (run this on your ps2 machine) :

  • PS2 Reality Media Player : although there’s similar apps like this one but i choose this program to play media files such as MP3, Divx / Xvid Video on my pstwo

Apps Launcher for your PS2 Machine :

  • LaunchElf : this launcher simply is the best launcher for me ;)

Playing PS2 from your HDD (since im using slim pstwo i cant use HDLoader program), so the only way for me to play through HDD is by using USB HDD Advance by connecting my harddisk drive into usb connector (not all games can be played like on HDLoader) .. if you need it try searching the internet because im not going to put any links to it (illegal) ;)

And don’t forget to check my newest post for an All in one ps2 tools

  5. Reaper-X said May 19, 2007 at 11:09 am

    # Ashwin

Unfortunately the answer is no .. the only way to play copied games you’ll need to use Swap Magic method or Modchip method

btw if you dont want to use modchip because you dont want to lose your ps2 warranty, you can use the swap magic / disc method :)

    # joko

Ah … it is not possible to delete files from an already made ps2 cd / dvd because the media (the cd / dvd used) itself is not Rewritable, so you’ll need to buy a blank cd / dvd to burn it

  6. joko said May 18, 2007 at 11:55 pm

if i delete the files from a cd that plays on a ps2 can i put a downloaded game on the cd

  7. Ashwin said May 18, 2007 at 9:01 pm

is there a way to play copied games on my unmodified ps2?mine Is PAL.

    THANK U

  8. Reaper-X said May 18, 2007 at 5:43 pm

Could you be more specific about what you’re going to do?

  9. joko said May 18, 2007 at 3:40 am

if i remove the files from a ps2 cd n put a downloaded game on it will it work?

    # Joko

i hav downloaded swapmagic can i burn it 2 CD to use on my ps2 and play burned games or do i need the original?

unfortunately no, you’ll need to get the original version of swapmagic

because if you burned it, you’ll need to have modchip installed in order to run the burned swapmagic

and can i convert it to the format tht works on ps2 so tht i can use my flash drive to play the game on my ps2?

I dont really understand about this part, maybe you could explain it any further ?

are you trying to say you want to play games from flashdisk ? if thats your question, the answer is no :)

Im so sorry to everyone for late reply (i’ve been quite busy since april), although i didnt know if you (as the commenter will read it again) .. i’ll reply to it anyway :)

i just bought a dms4 mod chip for my scph 75001 v 14 ps2 i have a few qu about flashing the mod chip i am pretty ignorint about the software and everything about converting files and such but i am excellent in hardware umm..i guess how do i flash and how exactly can i save my games to a portable hd. thanks matt

You’ll need to burn the Firmware upgrade into a blank cd .. and then .. just run it like you were playing ps2 game

i have seen on some sights ps2 compatable so i can just use any i find it has to have certain specs have to support different usb types let me know if u know something about it thanks yet once again matt

USB specification used in PS2 only USB 1.1 ;)

as for support different usb type, i guess you were asking about Cheat Devices compatibility when used to backup your savegame

the answer is, that’s depend on the Cheat Devices itself, for example i saw some people having problem in Codebreaker 9.2 / 9.3 to recognized their usb flash disk in new PS2 slim console (im using 70004 PAL and didnt have that problem) so i guess its above 70x version that is having problem with CB cant recognized usb device

and that means its software dependant :)

    # Joko

Unfortunately … its not possible to run backup games (downloaded iso game) without using Modchip or using SwapMagic :(

    # Kristian

If you still looking for it … just leave comment here again ;)

Ok thanks. I got ARMAX EVO working now with my China-made MP3player. ^^,

  18. Reaper-X said Apr 7, 2007 at 9:44 am

unlike codebreaker, armax usb driver doesnt offer much compatibility to various usb flash disk available in the market some say specific brand are worked with armax, and some other are not :(

btw so far i have tested this brand and they’re compatible : Apacer, MyFlash, and Kingston

  19. Aku said Apr 6, 2007 at 10:31 pm

Hey forget that question, already made it to work. Bought a CD-R a while ago and burnt it. Tested and runs good on my slimline. And yes, ARMAX EVO detects my USB flash drive! [at last!] Although it shows “Total Kb: 0″ for now.

So here’s another problem: how can i make my memory stick compatible? Should i format it into something specific so ARMAX EVO could detect it with the total space? What other tools should i use?

For now, i hope things come out good with ARMAX EVO [since hope went out for SCPH-7500x slimline series including mine]. ^^, I’ll be waiting for your reply!

  20. Aku said Apr 6, 2007 at 8:05 am

    Hey, Reaper it’s been a while. ^^,

Well i’ve been successful on burning a SEGA GENESIS Emu for my PS2 [and yes, i do agree that nothing beats PC Emulation ^^] and my nephews liked it. Thanks a bunch.

Now i’m back with another question since there’s been a floating “ARMAX EVO” around and i wanted to try it out. And since i forgot my 1meter LAN cable at home i’m currently unable to back my saves to my HD [i bought my HDs with me here at UAE] and i’m looking for other alternatives while i’m having a hard time looking for a LAN cable [most PC shop/sellers here doesn't seem to recognize what a LAN cable is o.O].

I already “leeched” [heh ^^] the ARMAX EVO ISO via torrent [thanks to BC] and, it’s a CD image. Sad thing is, i ran out of CD-R’s. I tried burning it to a DVD and it finished successfully… but when i tested it in my PS2, it was busted [doesn't work].

So, my question is: how do i make a dummy file so i could possibly burn it to DVD version and so my PS2 could read it? Or, what procedures should i do to make it a DVD version? How large should i make the dummy file if i am to create one? The ISO’s size is 104Mb, BTW.

Sorry for this yet another disturbance. ^^

  21. Reaper-X said Apr 3, 2007 at 9:56 am

to convert cbs into max, you can simply open the cbs file using savebuilder and choose to save it as max .. and you’re done :)

  22. Kevin said Apr 2, 2007 at 11:28 pm

I downloaded the gamesave builder but, what do I do now? I want to convert A cbs file ( code breaker ) to a MAX file for my PS2..

  23. Will said Mar 25, 2007 at 1:12 pm

Hi there. I read your article and but I’m a little confused of what to do since I’m new at all this. I want to transfer some game saves I got from gamefaqs.com to my memory card (since my last memory card’s data got corrupted; don’t you hate power outages that occur while you’re in the middle of saving a game? This happened in the middle of a clear sunny day too).

I’ve already converted the saves into the proper format so that’s not a problem. My PS2 is model#70012 (slimline version, unmodded) and all I have is my mp3 player (512 mb) that can act as a flash usb drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  24. Tommy said Mar 24, 2007 at 11:21 pm

    Hello Sir/Madaam

I have AR Max which i bought today so i could hack Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 and well im in a predicament.(pardon my spelling)

I dont have a memory stick to transfer saves and i cant plug my ps2 into the internet because i have the old ps2 and i dont have an internet adapter.

And therefore i cant put saves on to it!

Is there anyway to put saves onto it any other way?

  25. Reaper-X said Mar 17, 2007 at 1:07 pm

the first tool you should use is CBCrypt to decrypt the CB Codes, and then you can convert it into armax codes using Max Convert :)

  29. Reaper-X said Mar 2, 2007 at 10:38 am

As long as they’re creating the codes for Smackdown VS Raw2007, then you can be sure it’s going to work. But Im sorry but armax is to large :( ..

  32. Reaper-X said Feb 11, 2007 at 11:22 pm

Well actually there are different types of cheat devices available for PS2 (of course it use different code type) and depend on your ps2 console type, you can only use cheat devices that is available for your console

i assume that you are not using a modchip on your ps2 and you are using XPloder as your cheat devices, judging from it .. i think that you’re using a PAL PS2 (other than that you’re from UK)

the famous codebreaker cheat devices can only be used on NTSC / US console (unless you’re using a good modchip on your PAL ps2)

and the cbs file you have downloaded is a codebreaker savegame file, that means in order to use those savegame on your xploder, you’ll have to convert it first using PS2 Save Builder (i havent tried Xploder yet but i think it’ll work just fine) ;)

  33. chris said Feb 11, 2007 at 10:51 pm

i have the Xploder lite package but i cant add cheats because i dont have the system package or sumthin thats why i was asking if i could cheat i have the finalfantasy XII but cant cheat because i cant add any cheats any ideas?

p.s. i downloaded a savefile with a .cbs format why wont this work on my ps2 and could this be converted or anything?

  34. Reaper-X said Feb 10, 2007 at 10:08 pm

Im sorry for late reply because im having a really big problem (flood) right now

btw to answer your question. Unfortunately its not possible for you to use a cheat devices software for ps2 from your thumb drive :( ..

  35. chris said Feb 2, 2007 at 7:38 pm

hi i was wondering if it is possible to get software for the armax or a codebreaker put it onto any usb flash disck or memory stick and be able to use it i was trying to get saves of my memory card onto my flash disck an vice versa also can you help me? please email me christopherobrien8@hotmail.com

  36. Reaper-X said Feb 1, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Thank you very much Ivan, and to answer your questions :

[Q1] To run a burned cd into my ps2 do i really need a mod chip?

[A] Yes, but the other way is using swap magic (although i havent tested it yet, but if you’re already using modchip there’s no need for you to use swap magic again) :)

[Q2] Can you give a step by step guide on how to run Code Breaker then load my cheats onto my mc?

[A] You just simply run codebreaker disc just like you are playing game but first you’ll need to select the cheat first. And about loading codebreaker codes from mc, it’ll load saved codes automatically and you dont have to do anything (if that is your question)

[Q3] how do i get my USB to work if i don’t have the right format?

[A] What is your ps2 type ? is it the new slim ps2 (i mean above scph 7000x series) because the new slim ps2 have problem especially with the usb driver on codebreaker, the only thing you can do is wait for a new release of codebreaker :(

  37. Ivan said Feb 1, 2007 at 10:55 am

First of all I really appreciate what you are doing, and the time you are investing on this web page. My question is: DO I REALLY NEED A MOD CHIP TO RUN BURNED CD’s ON MY PS2?? I’m using the slim version as well. Thanks

  38. Ivan said Feb 1, 2007 at 10:36 am

First I found your site really helpful, I appreciate the time you invest. Three quick questions:
    1) To run a burned cd into my ps2 do i really need a mod chip?
    2) Can you give a step by step guide on how to run Code Breaker then load my cheats onto my mc?
    3) how do i get my USB to work if i don’t have the right format?

  39. Reaper-X said Feb 1, 2007 at 7:03 am

Of course, although i dont use it (i prefer to use console emulator on pc) :P

btw currently i have snes emu, and sega emu only :(

If you want to run it directly via cd, you can burn it combined with an ELF Launcher along with the other ps2 tools to make sure there’s no unwasted space in your burned cd(im using various tools in one cd) lol

btw dont forget to create dummy files too (at least 100MB) ;)

  40. Aku said Jan 31, 2007 at 11:31 pm

    Okay got it, thanks. ^^

Anyway, i got another question if you don’t mind. Do you have console emulators for the PS2? I mean for example: emulating SNES/GB/SegaGenesis/etc in your PS2? If you do, how do i make one in a CD? Do i need to do it with MC exploit? I was planning on making one before i leave the country. Thanks.

  41. Reaper-X said Jan 26, 2007 at 10:30 am

    # Aku

Yes i still have the PS2 Reality (maybe they removed it because its not allowed for them to put it there), and i’ll send it to you later to your email

Well .. actually you can use it to play DIVX, XVID files on your ps2 from your burned movie collection (i always use it when i go to another city) .. unfortunately its still doesnt support USB Flashdisk

as for another media player, you can also use ARMax media player to play your movie files too (although i prefer ps2 reality because of its easy to use interface and its features)

  42. master said Jan 26, 2007 at 7:47 am

yo reaper how can i get the newest version of codebreaker from you to download and burn.

  43. Aku said Jan 25, 2007 at 12:16 am

BTW, do you still have a copy of PS2 Reality Media Player? Seems like Exploitstation already removed their link of that file. Can you send me a copy thru my e-mail? And, how does it actually work? Thanks again.

  44. Aku said Jan 25, 2007 at 12:10 am

Hey thanks for the reply Reaper-X. I was successful on using ExecFTP standalone and copied my MC data to my PC without doing an exploit [i used UltraFXP in my PC to connect to my PS2]. And yeah, you’re right that my problem is how to identify the games because they’re appearing from their product code [as folder names].

What i did was use the PS2 Save Builder and view the icons [view.ico] to identify which game was which. Though it’s not too convenient, i guess that would be my only way to identify and manage my MC data backups. I hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch for the tools here! ^^,

  45. cwrt said Jan 20, 2007 at 10:54 am

How can i download a nother codebreaker or Gameshark?

  46. Reaper-X said Jan 16, 2007 at 12:57 am

    # Aku

Dont worry about it Aku and sorry for late reply :-)

Btw .. as far as i know of the recent pstwo (ps2 slim console) has some problem regarding the usb function on codebreaker, although on the old slim version it works fine without problem (im using 70002 with CB9.2 and works great)

as for copying your savegame via lan card, well you can use various FTP Program to do it but its going to be hard because you cant see the game name :-( (its going to be SLUS/SLES XXXXX)

the easiest way to backup your savegame is by using ARMax (dunno if there’s any problem with the usb function on recent pstwo version), because it works great on my console

    # Cragman69

I dont think its possible as for now (maybe), because the only way i can found so far to play your media files is using a flash disk (thumb drive) or burn a cd with your media files in it (divx, xvid, mp3)

as a note, i’ve tried to play media files on my pstwo (slim 70002) using external HDD but the media player software cant detect my external HDD :-(

  47. Cragman69 said Jan 15, 2007 at 5:30 am

hi i have the ps2 fat silver and i was wondering if there is away to play movies or music off of my mp3 player/usb stick or an external usb HDD. anyone?

  48. Aku said Jan 14, 2007 at 1:35 pm

Hey, sorry for flooding. =] But as i browsed different sites, i learned that i cannot use the MC to USB function from the Codebreaker 9.2 with my current System version [which is SCPH-75004].

Now, i wanted to try the alternative, which is the ExecFTP. I already downloaded your ISO version, burned it, and it works [my PS2 can boot it], now i only need to buy a LAN cable.

Now, my question is… what’s next? Should i still use the MC exploit in order to transfer data to my PC/vice versa? Please guide me on how to do it… thanks a bunch. ^^,

  49. Aku said Jan 9, 2007 at 1:11 am

Ok, apparently my model is a modded SCPH-75004.

  50. Aku said Jan 9, 2007 at 12:38 am

Is there any [unofficial] fix for Codebreaker’s function to copy data from the Memory Card to the USB using a modded slim PSTwo? I’m having difficulties doing it. Thanks.
